Shoreham Scenes

Post by johnwickenden » Fri Mar 27, 2020 3:21 pm

Between the years 2008 and 2012 I was working down near the south coast and my local airfield was Shoreham (Brighton City). Notwithstanding the visitors it used to get for the home airshow and for Eastbourne, it also used to receive a number of Military aircraft transitting on Navexs or travelling home from Germany. The following are a snapshot of what came in
815Sqn Lynx HMA8 XZ732 which visited on 30 Oct 2009

and finally, something a bit different, Belgian SF260 ST-48, on 16 July 2010

Hope they are worth a look
Its gonna rain, its gonna rain till the levee breaks, a tidal wave of fear and pain washes us away, another fight into the night until nothing else remains, how do we find harbour from the Hurricane?

I live less than an hours dash from Shoreham and have had reason to pop in there over the years, though sadly not since 2014 when there were four Belgian SF-260s present. Unfortunately I don't get a heads up on the choppers that visit for lunch and/or fuel otherwise I would go more often.
Other highlights were a rare RAF Rescue Bell-412 in the grey scheme on it's way to Cyprus from Shawbury in 2013 and a 41 sqn Harrier in August 09.
Used to have a day there during Eastbourne's airborne as well but like everything else, it's not the same anymore and Beachy Head was the priority.
Lovely scenic airfield with a nice backdrop and elevation available courtesy of the tower steps and all the action right in front of you, although I've heard that the parking areas on the east side have gone now, so it's pay and display if you can find a space.
Thanks for posting a nice set.
