The Office - Part Five

Post by wizzair » Wed May 18, 2022 7:27 am

Life on 617 Sqn soon settled down to the routine tasks.

Entering low-level en-route to Northumberland for Exercise Mallet Blow in 1984.

Crossing the Alps during the return from a weekend away at Ghedi AB in Italy.

Getting to know the VC10 as a tanker, but not quite getting much of it in the frame.

May 1985 was an odd month and included two very unusual formation sorties, both in Wales.

Leading the Portuguese Air Force during a squadron exchange with Monte Real AB.

A one-off formation on a very highly classified sortie with no photographs allowed (hence the cabin conditioning pipes featuring in the picture). This was an early trial for Project Teal Ruby (Google is your friend) and involved sitting on the pan at Brawdy and then scrambling into the Aberporth ranges when a U2 carrying the sensor unit from the USAF's proposed satellite came into the overhead. The project was cancelled after the shuttle disaster and went from secret to news item.

:ninja:

Not much left in the album now, just a few sweepings for one last post.

All great (again!) - but that low level shot with the Corsairs is superb
