Sentry Nostalgia

Post by johnwickenden » Mon Jun 27, 2022 8:21 pm

I know they haven't quite gone just yet, but they are very definitely not operational anymore and we are (as usual) some way off the replacement entering service. The Sentry was never a type that - I now realise - I ever took many photos of.....taken for granted perhaps?

Anyway...in the words of Joni Mitchell, "You don' know what you've got til it's gone", here's my tribute to the Big Boeing with the spinning top

Farewell faithful guardian !
Its gonna rain, its gonna rain till the levee breaks, a tidal wave of fear and pain washes us away, another fight into the night until nothing else remains, how do we find harbour from the Hurricane?

Thank you very much for the trip down memory lane. I have many fond memories of E-3D visits to Geilenkirchen... as well as visiting Waddington on multiple occasions incl. the annual air show.

Nice selection Jon.
I see that your ground shots show the 'temporary' additional radar structures of various sizes from lattice steelwork (just to let the wind blow through)
Operationally though these never really were approved ;)

I'm hoping before their final departure across the globe that they might get their Chilean AF national markings with rudders painted in blue.

Thanks for posting

Nice idea John. Thought about it myself last year when they were retired but never quite got round twit. More round twits definitely needed. We could all do with some!
