Norsk Luftfartsmuseum Bodo March 2022

Post by mikee115 » Wed Jul 27, 2022 9:05 pm

Hi all,

When away in Bodo, Norway, back in March covering the NATO exercise Cold Response we visited the Norsk Luftfartsmuseum. A great museum, if a little dark, with a wide variety of aircraft that had flown with the Luftforsvaret. It also offered a chance to escape the freezing temperatures and have a great view over the Arctic base.

Thanks for looking. The museum has a civil part to it as well which i'll upload to Civil Aviation.

Check out the report on exercise Cold Response at https://www.airspeedmedia.net/post/nato ... esponse-22

Thanks
Mike

Thanks for sharing these, this is one of the museum's on my list to visit. Back in 1988 I visited the old museum at Gardermoen and a few of the aircraft shown here, were seen then. Nice country to visit, but take lots of money!

It is worth a visit to the museum and in a stunning country but as you say expensive.

No problem. It is packed, with some aircraft not being easy to photograph, like the U-2.

Nice shots. The museum in Bodo is part of a trilogy of excellent museums in Norway - the other two being Gardermoen and Stavanger. Can recommend them to anyone. Lots of interesting aircraft in each and all three have a number of ex WWII Luftwaffe machines that have been restored or are under restoration.
Its gonna rain, its gonna rain till the levee breaks, a tidal wave of fear and pain washes us away, another fight into the night until nothing else remains, how do we find harbour from the Hurricane?

When I visited in 1988, there was also the Akerhus in Oslo, plus the Technical Museum. All had military aircraft, but a trip up to Gardermoen as well. We arrived early, way before opening hours and the Man In Charge gave us a tour of the restoration/storage hangar. It contained four Ju52s that had been fished out of a fjord, plus some other stuff. Several dismantled F-86s as well. Great days.

I was lucky enough to get to the museum at Stavanger-Sola a few years ago. Fortunately I was working at the time so the company was picking up most of the expemses.
It was a great museum and highly recommended.

Very nice. I have an open invite to go up there but have never planned the trip. Maybe I should :)
