Colmar-Meyenheim August 11 1967

Post by Keflavik69 » Thu Aug 11, 2022 5:52 am

Today 55 years ago I visited the French air base of Colmar-Meyenheim. The base was home to the 13th Escadre that was in the process of receiving the Mirage 3E and, totally unexpected, an escadron of F-100 Super Sabres of the 11th Escadre.
This is the final part of my '55 years ago' series of images from my 1967 spotters-trip. I was surprised by all the friendly comments made and I would like to thank you all very much for them. I hope you appreciate this batch as well.

Pure gold, thank you for taking the time to post these. These charismatic aeroplanes are so missed in these days of the F-35.

Once again a cracking selection of frames for us to view, what is noticeable is how close you could get to the action back in 1967. Love those Super Sabres and the Mirage 111s. Thanks again for sharing.

Fantastic. Have enjoyed all of these. Makes we want a time machine, so nostalgic.
Like others have alluded to, we don't know how lucky we were back then in the halcyon days before base closures, removal of squadron markings and anodyne characterless winged computers.

Hi Arnold, another big "thank you", this time for your "55 years ago" series of visits. Apart from the stunning selection of aircraft seen, the quality of your photographs from so far back is stunning too. I'm wondering what the equivalent circumstance would be today - visiting a base to see FAF Mirages, only for a squadron of F100s to turn up!? :Wow:

Thanks for posting... Mirage IIIs followed by F100s! To quote a modern phrase... "what a day!"

Thanks Arnold, another great selection of shots of days gone by and I think we're all grateful to you for putting these up for us to enjoy. I always lived seeing French F-100s and at the moment I'm typing this from my hotel room in Carlisle. In two days time I'm crossing the border into Scotland and visiting the museum just outside Dumfries. They've got an F-100F although it's painted in USAF markings, but it's also a museum I've not visited yet.

Cheers.

Just like 'paddyboy' I too (like others) am old enough to remember the 48 TFW Super Sabres and I really enjoyed viewing this post.
It was also great to see the MS.760 as they were regular visitors to Bournemouth Hurn in the 70's.
A truly wonderful post together with the series and I cannot thank you enough for sharing them
Be the reason someone smiles today👍

A fabulous end to a stunning series Arnold,

Unfortunately I can't say great memories as I was only 4 at the time, but really appreciate the content of this series and your captures of them are superb.

Thanks for sharing

Kev
