RAE Bedfords modified Gnat XP505 Rear Cockpit - Information Request

Post by petetasker » Sun Jun 11, 2023 4:23 pm

Hi all - I’m in the middle of a long term modelling project of Bedford’s needle nosed Gnat XP505 and I’ve been trying to find photographs or illustrations of the aircrafts seatless rear cockpit ideally when it was still in use as a test aircraft. The aircraft is today owned by the Science Museum and is in storage at Wroughton. This has been going on now for a couple of years and I’ve basically drawn a complete blank on the subject. I’ve contacted various museums including FAST at Farnborough - just waiting for a reply. I don’t suppose anyones ever taken pictures of it that included the rear cockpit? The cockpit was stripped of any test equipment when it was given over for preservation but as well as ‘in service’ shots I’d be quite interested to see any detailed photographs of the rear cockpit once it was taken on by the Science Museum.

Any help very much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance

Pete
