Awfully nice chaps those Germans. I asked the pilot of one of the 104's if it was ok to take some pics and not only did he say yes, but asked for my camera and told me to get in the cockpit.

A depressing note though, look at all that hair and where did it go.





That's it for the pics I have from my first tour at Lossie. My Mum and Dad got me a slide projector for my birthday in Dec 79 and it was slides from then on.

The quality of the pics wasn't good for some of these and you were at the mercy of the developers who had a knack for cutting off noses etc despite the whole aircraft being in the frame, but I hope you enjoyed looking at these and the variety of aircraft that came into Lossie.

On a side note, in the picture of G91 32+54, in the background is Piper Aztec G-BAPL. This aircraft was owned by Scottish Malt Distillers and was based at Lossie in the VASS hangar. Quite often on a Friday afternoon/evening this aircraft would be heading down to Edinburgh and I was fortunate enough to get 5 flights in total on this aircraft and get a weekend at home.

I remember G-BAPL, and its blue and white predecessor, G-ATLC, also an Aztec. Ex-Navy Buccaneer man Pete Lewis, who owned/ran the Clifton Bar in Lossie, undertook some of the Edinburgh flights in G-BAPL I believe.

The German Do28s were interesting aircraft, but so slow! When they called up on approach you felt you could nip home for lunch and be back down at the airfield before it had crossed the perimeter fence!
