Mosquito Day @ YAM 15 May '91

The Yorkshire Air Museum's 1991 Open Day was selected for the roll out of Tony Agar's Mosquito NFII NJ711 and hence designated Mosquito Day. The date of 15 May was relevant being the 50th Anniversary of the first flight of the Mosquito NF prototype and it was arranged for BAe's Mosquito RR299 to visit. A maximum effort was required to put the airframe together in time and in the preceding days much additional manpower was drafted in incl. my dear old dad. Somehow it all came together in time and NJ711 looked the part, albeit w/out engines. RR299 flew in and parked up opposite her to provide a memorable sight and one of the photo opportunities of the year. There were also flypasts by other aircraft, including a Canberra TT18 of 100 Sqn. and the designated display Tornado F3 from 25 Sqn. However the star was undoubtedly a Buccaneer in Gulf War pink, apparently one of a pair which had been prep'd to go out as replacements when hostilities ceased. This was [i]Dirty Harriet and a big thank you to those who sent me close ups of the nose art recently.
