BAe EAP - Loughborough University

Heres one that doesnt pop up much in any photos, and one that I have been meaning to get a photo of for a while.

Went down to the Aero department last night (darkest place on campus) to get some shots of the Moon and Mars, and got some pics of the EAP at the same time. Unfortunately we cant get into the main hall/"hangar" out of hours, so this is an arty one from outside:

And at 10mm, still not too good, but hey:

An annoying gap in many peoples logbooks so I am told!

Do you work on that like we used to on the JP we had at cambrudge regional college?

We haven't done yet Shaun, but still only in Semester 1!

We have a coursework next week comparing it to the Typhoon and Tornado, so might be an excuse for some more photos. There is also a limited edition 1/72 kit of it coming out this year so I am told. :)

I will keep my ear to the ground on the kit to see if anyone knows any more.

I bet that will be a bit more interesting than our old JP as I didnt have the heart to tell our instructor that I had worked on meteors, mustangs and other stuff when I used to go up duxford :halo:

I saw it at the 25th Anniversary show for the Red Arrows at Scampton, I think the current Typhoon display is more 'energetic', I was left a bit underwhelmed.

Any chance this may someday be presented to a Museum like Cosford?

.
. When you think it flew on 8-bit microprocessors, not as they do today on 64-bit, it flew remarkably well.

I believe so - the student rumour is that the EAP is in fact going to Cosford, and will be replaced by one of the BAe Typhoons. :ninja:

But thats just a student/staff rumour.

Nice Pics Ben.
In the "good old days" in Transport Technology (next to the Chem Eng and Edward Herbert building) we had the Hunter and JP to play with - working in teams to dismantle components, write it up and move on to reassemble the next part. That caused great hilarity at times but only many years later I realised what valuable experience this was. They were replaced by the Experimantal Jaguar (now at Cosford ?). The JP (G-AOBU) became a flyer, as did the Hunter, which sadly crashed killing the pilott at Dunsfold some years ago.

Well, we've still got her, and I went down again last night to get a few shots - happily the canopy was still up so I took this:

Missing the control column and HUD, but we have them somewhere I think!

Ideal chance to replace the EAP with a Harrier.

That is, so we are told, the plan.

Should have happened over the summer, but has been delayed.

Viper,
One of my friends has a 1/72nd scale kit of it, built. I believe it was done by Merlin Models, many years ago. Truly horrible kits, done in the owners garden shed with a basic plastic moulding machine by the look of them. However, with work and patience, a good result could be obtained. I did a very nice Balliol from them some years ago. I would think it would be near impossible to find one these days. Give Nigel a ring at Hannants for info, perhaps?

Freightdog Models are due to release an all new 1/72 resin kit of the EAP in March 2011.

There's a resin kit by Silver Cloud out now in 1/72 at the princely price of £35! :O

Good to see Ebn, brings back some fond memories :D

There was talk when I was at Loughborough that the EAP would replaced dring the summer I left, so it's nice to see it's still there 3 years on. Might have to dig out some crappy old pics I took back in the day for old times sake :)

Brings back lots of memories. I remember her last flight. Pete brought her up from the east so low she rose out of the ground from where I was standing. He honked her around the field for a nice little display. Then she was down and that was it. Nice aircraft (unless you were taxiing her in which case she was awful).
