At 1613 at sunset the MIG-21 finished its last ever QRA duty. In the short term before the Rafale takes it over it will be done by Italy and Hungary. This is not an official retirement despite some reports but it is uncertain what flying activities will take place from now on. Of the remaining active jets 166 last flew in March, 118 in July and 117 in August. Remaining time since last overhaul for these jets will be up by the end of this month and the end of January. 116 the only flyer since August can go on until April next year.

D1434-A1503 KNIGHT01 MIG-21 116 recovered with K31/32. On landing the pilot thanked ATC for all their past help. Maybe another last flight.

These flights have been reported as the last flights of the MiG-21 but with no official announcement it remains to be seen.

Interesting to note that after an official announcement that the MiG had relinquished the QRA role on the 30th November it then performed a live QRA scramble just five days later on the 4th December. So despite the announcement it appears the MiG was or is still holding the QRA.

Although no official announcement it appears the two flights of MIG-21BisD 116 on the 19th December were the last flights of the type :-(

I have only recorded Rafale missions that I either heard or saw or were reported to me so it’s not an exhaustive list by any means. A total of ten have so far been delivered with the remaining two expected before the end of April. They are still flying lates on Monday/Tuesday and mornings Wednesday-Friday.

The French contingent arrived from Poznan-Krzesiny as part of exercise PEGASE25. The French Rafales used the Slunj air to ground range before landing. On the 29th a second A330MRTT FAF4099 F-UJCG operated direct from and to Istres and set up a refuelling track over the Adriatic abeam Zadar. Both the French and Croatian Rafales made use of it with it being the first time the Croatian Air Force had performed air to air refuelling.
