04-01-2024 Thursday
The 191ELA 32nd Anniversary celebration saw two flypasts from the following pair of MiGs
VITEZ03 117 1256-1320
VITEZ04 116 1256-1320

A small static display also had
MIG-21R 26112 exJRV
MIG-21UMD 165 still in its red and white scheme
MIG-21UMD 166

It made a change to see a few more people at the fence today for the MiGs

A Belgium A400M BAF637 CT-06 arrived from Brussels at 1018 to do some Ukraine supply runs to Campia Turzii which are usually done by the Canadians from here. Departed 1152 then returned at 1524 to night stop.

05-01-2024 Friday
A400M BAF637 CT-06 did two more runs to Campia Turzii and back.
D0808-A1140, D1318-A1639 and is night stopping again.

06-01-2024 Saturday
D0847 BAF637 A400M CT-06 to Campia Turzii then back to Brussels.

10-01-2024 Wednesday
A1130 KOBRA20 Mi-171sh
1416 HAWK35 transit to Lucko

11-01-2024 Thursday
A1234 AN-12B CVK7025 UR-CEZ from HECA after a night stop it departed as CVK7026 on the 12th at 1055 to Pristina
A1238-D1350 DHC-8 MILAN7D F-ZBMJ 77 from Dole out to LFPB

A late pair of MiGs on their only flight this week
1402-1453 KNIGHT01 116
1405-1456 VITEZ33 117

Recent satellite pictures have revealed where the previously stored aircraft were moved to within the base. The four MiGs 131,132,134,135 are all in the graveyard with the other wrecks. The 5 Mi-8s are in the trees with the two An-32s just off the main taxyway to ZTC on the spur leading to the gunnery range. The four MiGs can be seen from the departures level of the new terminal but the Mi-8s and An-32s are completely hidden.

As for MiG activities, you only need to look through the thread to see how often they are currently flying but the short answer is roughly a pair once a week and very occasionally a 3 ship.

14-01-2024 Sunday
An unidentified MiG-21 did a short test flight, very odd for a Sunday
1410-1435 VITEZ96

I suspect mainly due to poor weather there was no MiG activity for the whole of the following week.

D1105 SWAN63 CL415 888 to Zadar aborted take off and taxied back to the mil ramp. Finally departed at 1305.

So after no MiG flights last week there were just two single jets up this week.

06-02-2024 Tuesday
D1106-A1133 VITEZ96 an unidentified MiG-21 test flight
A1440-D1538 E10E3 C-21A 84-0085 from Lielvarde out to Ramstein

08-02-2024 Thursday
D1036 KOBRA31 Mi-171sh 227 departed to Lučko after performing one low pass off an ILS approach.
A1239-D1337 MILAN7D DHC-8 F-ZBMK 78 from Rouen out to Le Bourget
1245 KNIGHT01 MIG-21 116 taxied out but cancelled at the holding point and taxied down the runway and back to the QRA barn. A second unidentified MiG calling VITEZ33, as the target aircraft, called for start but shut down once KNIGHT01 returned.
1316 VITEZ96 MIG-21 116 again taxied for a test flight but aborted during its take off roll and once again returned to the QRA barn. With such few jets and pilots it appears all MiG flights are now made from the QRA barns and not the military ramp.

Blackhawk flying now appears to be split between Pleso and Lučko with missions originating from both fields. Noted flying out of Lučko and crossing the airport was UH-60M 230 as HAWK35 mid morning and again as HAWK36 at 1316.

After many false reports of the pair of AN-32s being delivered to Ukraine they were both seen today after being towed from out of the trees in the middle of the base area. One was out on the mil ramp and the other pulled into the hangar. The one in the hangar looked like it was possibly having its tail markings removed. Strong rumours are that they are destined for Ukraine and the preparation to get them airworthy again may have started.

12-02-2023 Monday
A0835-D1305 HUAF135 A319 605 from and to Budapest from Adsb

13-02-2023 Tuesday
Both An-32s 707 and 727 are now parked on the military ramp. Both have had their serials, titles and roundels painted out this week and are now completely devoid of any markings apart from the small construction number on the rear fuselage under the tailplane. It appears they have been handed over to Ukraine whose engineers are now preparing for them to leave.

14-02-2024 Wednesday
Seen parked on the military ramp next to the An-32s today were
MIG-21UMD 165 red and white
MIG-21R 26112 JRV colours

15-02-2024 Thursday
1215 GAF884 A319 1502 inbound from Varna made one low approach before continuing on to Cologne.

There were no MiG flights this week.

27-02-2024 Tuesday
A1004-D1424 IAM3119 A319 MM62209 from/to CIA Rome
This weeks pair of MiGs. I didn’t monitor these but I would guess the call signs were KNIGHT01 and VITEZ33.
D1017-A1102 117
D1022-A1058 166

29-02-2024 Thursday

A1226-D1330 MILAN7D DHC-8 F-ZBMH
I am grateful to some fellow Dutch enthusiasts for this weeks movements.

02-03-2024 Saturday
A1058 AN-124 UR-82027 arrived from Leipzig and did a return trip to Rzeszów D1619-A2343. It was seen loading at least 2 former HRZ Mi-8s.

03-03-2024 Sunday
D1500 AN-124 ADB3726 UR-82027 to Rzeszów. Another Mi-8 was seen being loaded but I assume all of the remaining five were shipped out on these two flights. Airport security was high with police stopping people being at the fence opposite where the AN-124 was being loaded. Fortunately clandestine pictures were possible which showed at least three Mi-8s being loaded. The three that were seen were all unmarked.

05-03-2024 Tuesday
This weeks pair of MiGs
D1156-A1249 KNIGHT01 116
D1200-A1251 VITEZ33 118

Both AN-32s were still present and seen back in the open hangar.

Just a pair of MiGs each week seems to be the norm at the moment with 116, 117, 118 and 166 being the only jets currently active.

A small open day has been announced at Pula on Saturday 23rd March. They are expecting a MiG-21 flypast, so weather permitting it should be worth hanging on the fence at Pleso if you’re keen on catching one departing and recovering.

A Croatian minister announced this week that an airshow titled AIRVG will be held at Zagreb airport on Saturday the 11th May. The stated intention is to show case the new equipment that is being inducted into the Croatian military focusing on the Rafale and UH-60M. Even though it would be a great opportunity to say goodbye to the MiG-21 it was not mentioned and it’s unknown if any will still be active by that point.

Also quoted in the local media, but unconfirmed, is the date of the 25th April for the arrival of the first six Rafales.

Nothing more than the original announcement by a government minister that the event would be held at the airport rather than at the ZTC facility. It only mentioned showing off new equipment like the Rafale and Blackhawk. Since then the chief of the air force has been quoted as saying it will also include a farewell to the MiG. I am not expecting any foreign participation at this stage as it’s only been a local event in the past.
