Poland long weekend

Post by Ronald Jeremy » Wed Oct 04, 2023 9:01 pm

Evening gents,

A trip out to Poland to see the in-laws enabled the below to hit the logbook. As the wife had flown out to Wroclaw to stay with her mum a month earlier I started off in Katowice last Thursday…

KTW 28.09

As I don’t need them I didn’t bother to log them but the four ex Polish AF An-26’s are still here. Three behind a mound to the left of the terminal and the fourth in the hangar areas. I didn’t notice the MiG-21 that was here so can’t confirm if still in situ.

Bytom 28.09

Preserved at a military unit is….

9784 MiG-21

Myslowice 28.09

At a post office in this suburb of Katowice….

4512 Mi-2

Muchowiec 28.09

As it was dark now only one preserved number noted at this GA field south of Katowice…

1712 TS-11

I went looking for another Mi-2 preserved around Katowice - 3621 - but couldn’t find it. Not sure if the coordinates shown on the Eurodemobbed site are correct.

I hit the motorway heading for Wroclaw but still had a few preserved bits to see on the way…

Gliwice 28.09

Preserved at the airfield….

5615 MiG-21

Opole 28.09

Again at the airfield….

926 Su-7

Was also a civil An-2 and M-18 here

Got to Wroclaw about 11pm. I was going to get the two numbers at the Hotel Cosmonaut near the airport but the missus was pecking my head to get round her mums flat. These could wait a day or two.

Friday 29th and the missus went the cinema with her mum so the mini half-Polska and me went for some preserved numbers around Wroclaw…

Wroclaw Tech University 29.09…

1852 An-2 (minus tail)
4108 MiG-29
8104 Su-22

These are all in poor shape

Wroclaw Aviation Institute, Psie Pole 29.09

706 TS-11
5609 MiG-21
7502 MiG-21

There should also be a Lim-1 here but I didn’t have the time to go looking for it.

Psary 29.09

Just north of Wroclaw and preserved by the roadside….

1815 MiG-21

Around a mile or so from here is the secondary airfield of Szymanov. There was a TS-11 preserved here but it now gone.

The missus booked a chalet for us near Gdansk for the weekend so we set off on the long drive north on Saturday morning. After filling up with fuel near Wroclaw airport the following were noted…

Wroclaw Hotel Cosmonaut 30.09

306 TS-11
7101 MiG-21

A little further along the road are some military barracks attached to the airport….

8007 MiG-21

I crept out of chalet on Sunday morning and did a quick trip down to Pruszcz Gdanski. As I only had my mini-bins I struggled somewhat here and only logged one….

3226 Mi-2 Polish Army

Was another two Mi-2’s and four Mi-24’s.

Gdansk 01.10

Arriving here late on Sunday evening was a Polish Border Guard L-410. As I don’t need any I took no notice but from memory I think is was SN-61YG.

Seen arriving Gdansk on Monday morning was US Army C-12 84-00162.

Headed back up to Wroclaw on Monday but didn’t stop however two F-16’s were seen departing over the motorway in Poznan outbound from Krzesney.

On departure from Wroclaw yesterday seen was 97-00102 US Army UC-35.
