Not to be confused with the 'MCAS Iwakuni Friendship Day', held every year on the 5th May (and which attracted a crowd of ~270,000). The JMSDF event is much smaller, it seemed like only a few thousand present. Another plus point over the MCAS event is the JMSDF are based on the SE side of the base, with favourable light. Obviously the main reason to visit was to snap the ShinMaywa US-1A/US-2 flying boats.
