Edinburgh Tattoo Flypast 06/08/2022 (Airbus A400M)

Just a couple of photos I took from Salisbury Crags on Arthur's Seat last Saturday.

And yes, I know I should have used a slower shutter speed but it was blowing a hooley at times and I was using a 150-600mm. Even with Image Stabilisation, I didn't want to take any chances - I was worried enough about going flying myself!

I am not sure why folks have to apologize for blades static, I would rather get the shot sharp than not. As others have said the 2nd shot is stunning.

Second shot is one of those sometimes intriguing occasions when it is difficult to tell whether or not the aircraft is approaching, or receding. Intrestin innit. Very nice either way. Apologies for the poor English, but C.24 might be amused. If you can't beat them, join them!. :) If one hasn't yet visited the Tattoo, it should be on your wish list. It won't disappoint!.

Thanks for the kind comments. I agree that the important thing with flight shots most of the time is to get a sharp image above all, but a bit of prop blur adds to the sense of movement. Funnily enough, having done motorsports photography too, a lack of wheel blur seems to look 'less wrong' much of the time.

The second shot was as the A400 was heading towards the west after the castle. I did use some post-processing to increase contrast and saturation, but that's all. I just loved the foreboding appearance of the cloud on the left of shot.

Should be clear skies on approach to the castle tonight...

I jinxed that - the sky is now a solid white, rather than blue. Doesn't look too low though.

That second shot is amazing, a great example of working with the weather conditions rather than fighting against them.

I would love to watch but since I am outside the UK BBC won't let me. Too bad.
