After the overcast and showery spotters day, we awoke at 0600 Hrs to make the 40 mile trip from Athens to Tanagra, yet again departure was in overcast conditions and the thought of a second day shooting black aircraft on white skies filled me with dread, especially as the forecast was wall to wall sunshine for the 3 days we were there. During the drive and passage through the hills, the cloud finally lifted and by 9 am it was wall to wall sunshine. With this though came horrific heat haze, damned if you do, damned if you don't. Luckily I had gone for the shaded seating, so as long as I spent less than 3 seconds in the sun, I didn't melt. The results are as follows....

Kicking off the first public day was this Hellenic Navy SH-70, even at 9.30 the heat was terrible.

Next up was this CH-47, following on with the helicopter theme.

Was starting to wonder if it was only helicopters at this point as this Hellenic Army NH-90 continued the show.

Has always been told that spotting in Greece could be risky, no more so when special forces exited the helicopter, and headed in our direction.

Luckily they realised they were late for breakfast and shot off.

More rotary items as the Hellenic Airforce took their turn to show off their AS532, not sure what part of rescue needs a special ops chap, fully armed !!

Just in case there were still people to be rescued, they sent the welcoming sight of 2 x AH-64's to the scene.

Finally it was time for some fast and Loud items, have to say that they most of the items that displayed, had a far different routine than the same aircraft in the UK, passing over the crowd line didn't seem out of bounds.

Danish F-16 solo going through the motions, his surprise was yet to come.

Low and slow pass by the solo Danish F-16.

Climb out from the low pass...next was our surprise.

And now for our surprise, even in the tinder box that is Greece, we were treated to flares !!! not seen these for a while, and certainly not in blighty !!

Danish air force solo pilot, taxying back past the applauding crowds.

Yep, lovely to see and hear things done in a different way, to the somewhat sterile offerings locally. Keep us posted! :thumb:

Think I need to do this next year. On the spotters day were you allowed to walk the static towards the end of the day or were you restricted to the various enclosures.

Hi Thunder,
No access was given to the static on the spotters day, but in all honesty, there were only 10 aircraft max on static, all could be seen from the grandstand.
