Barksdale Spotting

Post by Pete_W » Mon Apr 22, 2019 10:57 am

Hi. I'm due to spend a day in Shreveport shortly whilst on a US road trip. I plan to visit the museum at Barksdale and also get as many B52 serials as possible. Does any kind person know of any spotting places around the airfield and are there any restrictions from the security point of view.
Many thanks
Pete

Hi Pete

I went there a couple of years ago. The best spot is to the south - Mike Woods Park, between the trees you get a view of some of the ramp and can see the approach (a bit!), but the sun is against you in the morning.

The Global Power Museum at the north of the field has a good collection, but it's on base - if you contact the museum they should be able to arrange an escort.

It wasn't very busy when I was there, but there were a lot of B52s on the ground

Pretty much useless for spotting from the outside. Only options worth exploring are Mike Woods Park as already suggested and directly North of the 15 threshold is a car park at the Army Corp of Engineers but you’re quite a bit back here, and may not be met with open arms. If I was to use the latter I would make myself known upon arrival rather than just rock up into the car park and pulling out the scope/camera.
