Might have to replace the 120-400. It's between this and the 120-300 2.8 and a TC...

The "Sport" version is now available for pre-order from several places. $2000 USD, or £1600 ish. Not seen any reviews yet, but at that price hopefully it'll be at least as good as the Canon 100-400.

If reviews are good, I feel a trip to the USA coming on...

Can't see it Malcolm, TBH. Sometimes wish there was a serious alternative though, waiting for ever for the improved 100-400 II to appear!
Don't forget Black Friday on 28th Nov to buy new gear in the States ;)

Yeah, waiting for the reviews before stumping up that kind of cash. However, the Canon 100-400 is trading at about $1700, the Canon 70-200 F2.8 at $2300 and the Sigma 50-500 at $1500 ish. So to command $2000 the lens will need to be pretty good. Always fancied the Sigma 300-800 myself, but getting it on a Ryanair may be an issue.

Poor reviews from Canon owners because it wasn't a Canon white lens so rubbished it. Have you read any of the latest reviews?.

I eventually got a Sony fit Tamron 150-600mm and used it at Old Warden and Duxford and can tell you that at 600mm is very sharp when stopped down to f7.1 to f11.

Nothing wrong with those pics of yours Brian, looks like a good 600mm lens for the money or even 500mm or a good 400mm.
Lots of versatility with this lens and looking at most pics so far posted from the lens, it holds up very well good,
know its not as good as a 600mm white canon costing 6k, or a 500mm costing 5k, or even the canon 400mm at 4k.
its all of them and a bit more for very little money, thats what peeves some people off.

Whenever possible I use manual settings so I can get the best out of the camera, in this case a Sony A77II, and lens together. If you use shutter or aperture priority and let the camera work out the other settings, it can tend to get them wrong and hence naff images.

All gone a bit quiet on the new lens. Anybody know a release date? Sure I saw 20th October somewhere. No real reviews yet either.
