Hi all, does anyone have experience of recording lengthy video on canon DSLRs (70D specifically).
What happens when the 29min, 59s limit is reached? Can I immediately press start again for another 30 mins, assuming I have the capacity and the camera hasn't overheated (is this likely?)
Thanks!

Video Length Limit on Canon DSLRs
Re: Video Length Limit on Canon DSLRs
That’s the maximum length. The actual length of time is in gigabytes. The 29.59 is the theoretical maximum it could reach. If you shoot at high iso and say a fast frame rate you won’t get half that amount of time. Once the camera reaches 4gb it cuts off. I use video on an eos550d but it’s pretty much the same on all models of DSLR . This makes these type of cameras not suitable for school performances etc when you can leave it set up and running. While shooting owls at dusk in my garden and leaving it running at iso 6400 in full hd I was getting around 21 minutes.
Re: Video Length Limit on Canon DSLRs
The restriction on max recording time for a single continuous recording is solely down to legal/classification restrictions. If it were to record beyond 29m 59s then it would be classed as a video camera rather than a stills camera and attract a different product classification and I think a different tax rate. As for starting again after 29m and 59s, yes, that is exactly what you do.
