Hello all, I have discovered an internal element in one of my zoom lenses has fungus on it.

Can anyone recommend a repairer who would be able to tackle this?

Alan has done a few Canon camera and lens repairs for me in the past and has always been very fair and reasonable. One lens was estimated at many hundreds of pounds if the mech. needed replacing - when I turned up to collect it he had managed to repair it and the bill was in the tens of pounds, not the hundreds.

Thanks very much for that. I'll check out the website. Would be nice to get lens fixed before it gets any worse.

You might find that the fungus has attacked the lens coating which can lead to internal reflections or flares amongst other things that won't be apparent until the lens is re-assembled and tested, it might need replacing rather than cleaning. So have that conversation with whoever you choose to do the repair.

If its on the inside of the front lens it can be got at by removeing the front ring that holds the front lens in.
Good soak is some isobrutnol and wiped clean will remove it. Or if your not confident in doing it send it to a good repair shop.

Thanks but unfortunately it's an element further in from the front one.

I have now been in touch with Alan Marlow, as recommended earlier in this thread by CookipediaChef. He gave me a favourable ball-park repair cost. I imagine that would of course be subject to inspection, but I think that's the route I'll go down.
