Hi All,

New to the forum so thought id make a post here.

I have had the d500 now with a 200-500 nikon lens on it for around a year.

Would anyone mind sharing all there settings for fast jets please.

I see other peoples pictures with the same setup and I feel like they always look much sharper and less noisy.

I have my D500 in manual mode with auto ISO set to an upper limit of ISO 2000. I usually use an aperture of f8 and a default shutter speed of 1/1250th second for jets. I try not to drop below 1/1000th, and use 1/1600th second if it's a nice bright day. Other members will have their own ideas about which shutter speeds work best for them.

I'm a great believer in back-button focus, and have my AF-ON button set up with dynamic area AF (25 points) mode.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

I also have the nikon 200-500mm lens - i like the Reach it gives me, rather like a digital telescope . However I didn't buy it second hand expecting super sharp photos; I think they are perfectly acceptable but the lens can't match a fast high quality 70-200 in my opinion?

Its a big heavy lens and not easy to hand held especially on a moving target

I prefer shooting in Shutter mode and don't drop below the zoom of the lens, in your case no lower than 1/500. Depending on the available light I will go to auto ISO and keep the shutter speed as high as possible to get the sharpest images. Also I tend not you use the burst mode, as many photos go out of focus due to constant movement. I use my D500 in combination with the Sigma 150-600 Contemporary.

Good luck!
