168164 MH-60 - English Channel

Post by Rayg » Thu Nov 17, 2022 1:43 pm

An MH-60, Aerial 168164, has made numerous flights over the English Channel to the South or Devon and Cornwall over the past week. It landed at Newquay on the 12th and also in the Plymouth area on the 16th. Not sure what Ship it is from but may be part of the task force to support the Aircraft Carrier currently in the Solent.

USS Paul Ignatius is currently doing FOST at Plymouth so may be from that ship and it is not part of the GRFCSG. All the escorts from the CSG are berthed at various places around Europe.

This should be from HSM-79 which currently is based on detachment to Rota, Spain in support of European ships. By the end of 2022 the entire squadron should be detached to Rota. Has anyone actually read-off/photographed the helicopter to confirm the BuNo or is this from a mode-S tie-up?

Hi. Serial is as quoted on a couple of Flight Trackers. No actual sighting as yet.

I don't think anyone is more excited about the MH-60 than Plymouth Herald - live news page and all...

This morning (Fri 18th) a different MH60 was showing. Using callsign " Navy HG725" the serial was shown as 168146, very similar serial to HG727. So, it looks like the ship is carrying 2 MH60's.
Unfortunately when the USS Paul Ignatius came in to Devonport a few hours later every was put away and closed up.

I can confirm that the USS Paul Ignatius is carrying two MH-60Rs from HSM-79. When she was berthed on 1J @ HMNB Devonport last Sunday you could see one in the starboard hangar which it was not possible to identify and HG 725 was ranged on the flight deck.
