Keevil Airfield

Post by Alfie » Wed Mar 07, 2018 4:12 pm

Can anybody confirm the status of Keevil it seems to be getting used more and more. From the 5th March until the 17th march it is listed for being used for EX Lloyds Eagle and then straight after from the 18th March until the 23rd March EX Serjilla Storm. After the exercises it is than listed for night flying or perhaps just dropping C130 & C17 from 18.00 01.30. It now seems to come under the control of Brize Norton. I know back in the days when I used to attend motorcycle road races there it was used for practice drops by Lynham, because the circuit would have to brushed quite thourghly before racing could take place as the bags of grit used as ballast would have quite often split.

I live a couple on minute drive from Keevil. It's used most days/evenings by Apache and Chinook crews to name a few as well as the Brize contingent A400M,C17 & C130 for various training sorties.

Keevil has always been used during the bigger exercises as a FOB or enemy base and when it's not it's used by the RAFA Gliding Club.

Are there any exercises at Keevil over the next two weeks?
If there is, I may pop down for a couple of days.
Cheers.

Just missed a fairly large exercise, nothing showing on the airfield movements sheet for the next month.
