Re: Conversation Centre open.
Thanks for the summary Rob, I was there today (Thursday) and was amazed at the progress they have made on the Hampden and Wellington in the last year.
Not sure exactly when XZ997 arrived but I saw it there when I had a walk around on 19th October.
A few more Jags were out today:
GR3: XZ117/ES
GR3As: XX724/C; XX748/L; XX767/Z and XZ377/P
T4: XX840/T
Left in hangar 16 were GR1 XX825/BN in camo rather than grey and GR3 XZ367 which wears EE on the tail and GP on the nose wheel cover.

Re: Conversation Centre open.
I was back at Cosford last month, I've not been there since 2007, there seems to be more space between exhibits now but many seem to be be missing - unless I missed an entire hangar!!
Re: Conservation Centre open.
I guess if you were there in 07 then the Cold War hangar was open and the BA fleet had gone to Duxford?
There are four hangars though so hope you managed to find them and I would say that hangar 3 (Warplanes) seems pretty crammed and tricky for photography with all the German aircraft in there now. There has been a lot of movement to and from Hendon (who presumably have got the missing Pucara, Venom and P51) but there is other stuff in store (the Valetta, Vamps and cockpits) which I remember being there on display at one stage.
Still great value for a £3 parking fee.

Re: Conversation Centre open.
Cosford is fantastic value at only £3 to park the car, it's a wonderful place, but why have they pulled the Danish Catalina outside to rot with the rest of those lovely aircraft?
There seemed to be a few aircraft missing from the last time I was there (a lot of diversions between buildings were in place when I was there due to high winds, so I may have missed a hangar), a few I can think of from the top of my head that were missing are :-
Tornado XX946
Jetstream XX496
Bulldog XX654 (This used to be next to the Andover).
I don't remember seeing the Lincoln, the meteor with 2 cockpits or the Pucara either !

Re: Conversation Centre open.
Danish Catalina was pulled outside to make room for the Luftwaffe aircraft from London.
Lincoln is still on display, as is the Jetstream.

Re: Conversation Centre open.
XX946 is in storage from memory
Re: Conversation Centre open.
Jetstream was outside on 13th September this year when I last visited ( to the right of the Catalina as you look at it).
Re: Conversation Centre open.
Thanks for the replies, I've looked at the museum's website and it seems like we missed the "War in the air" hangar completely, the whole site was a bit chaotic with the high winds as quite a few entry and exit doors were closed and visitors were routed different ways than normal around the site. There were also huge pools of water in the "National Cold War" hangar due to the rain being blown by the high winds to where it shouldn't be going!
I had a close look at the Danish Catalina and I didn't notice a Jetstream next to it - mind you I'd had a very long day and night the day before and hadn't had much sleep, but I really don't think it's outside anymore.
Is there a list available anywhere that shows exactly what is in each hangar?

Re: Conversation Centre open.
Should have been clearer! Jetstream was about 15 yards to the right of the Catalina next to a fence. Noses were about level with each other.
Re: Conversation Centre open.
Mike, don't worry it will give you a good reason to go back! In fact there is an open cockpit evening on the 7th December if there are any tickets left.
On the 19th October, the Bulldog XX654 was under the port wing of the Comet with the silver Chipmunk. I didn't go back in this hangar while visiting the conservation centre as I hadn't expected much to change in a month so it was probably still there.
I don't think there is a full list although Wrecks and Relics is always a good source, my last version was the 25th Edition but there are plenty of changes to that edition as it was 2017.

Re: Conversation Centre open.
I remember seeing the Chippy, but there was no Bulldog next to it on 13/10. It seems like exhibits move around on a regular basis but they don't bother updating the website.reds1966 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 30, 2018 7:18 pmMike, don't worry it will give you a good reason to go back!
