Any haar or mist in the area?
It's a clearer and brighter sky than last time between the airport and Castle, but still cloudy. No haar that I can see.

Currently in Roseburn area & visibility is good. Cloudbase unknown though, so could still be too low for a flypast.

Pressure from where I am is currently 1001hPa. No haar around here just now.

Right if this is how it’s going to be I’m giving up watching for the Flypasts for this Year.
18th 21:00 Rain showers (58% chance)
25th 21:30 Mostly clear (8%)*

* Don't have a forecast for the 26th yet and I wouldn't trust it right now anyway!

Glad I didn't waste my time rushing out. Still hacked off that Scottish weather didn't play fair again. :grr:

109Sqn, by that info, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Thursday gets binned.

Nahhh, don't say that!!! We were lucky to get the A400M at the start, and they probably would pull the plug, given the chance!😲

At 9pm from now on in, light will be low - even though there's only one more flypast scheduled for the 9pm slot, 2 nights from now. Saw no mention on the NOTAM of the flypast on the 26th (9.30pm), but as I mentioned several posts back, unless it's got afterburners & they are lit, no one will see anything - short of having an F35 go into hover & land on the Esplanade, & we know that ain't going to happen. Ever.

Edit - even though a flypast was scheduled & weather may have allowed tonight, we still have to remember the aircraft are operational 24/7 & may be tasked at the last minute with no spare crew or airframe available to perform the flypast, or it might have gone tech. There's any number of reasons for a no show.

I half hoped that the Typhoon circling NE of Lossiemouth was suddenly going to make a beeline for Edinburgh, though I'd still have missed it overflying the castle! Might have spotted it afterwards though. :D

Probably more likely practising a Bear interception scramble.

Yes, 21:30 at this time of year, even with a clear sky isn't going to be too visible unless the Esplanade lights illuminate it, and that's only going to benefit those actually at the Tattoo (which of course is the whole point). The final flypast really should have been for the earlier (18:15) show so there'd be some daylight left. It's not as though the second performance on the 26th is the final one - that's on the 27th.

Just had a thought & someone mentioned this to me after the Reds cancelled, could they not make another Flypast for a different night to make up for the night they cancelled? Always wondered if that was why there wasn’t a Flypast every night.

Because it's the first year I've made a concerted effort to go out and photograph them all. Sorry everyone! 😉

Cost, for one thing would prevent nightly flypasts, airframe & crew availability too. Not everything the Reds do is in the cockpit - they might have a charity football match tonight, or maybe they'd made plans to go bowling. Who knows?🤔😄

From memory, there's been at least one cancellation from the flypast schedule fairly regularly, this year is no exception. The weather is always rubbish mid August - we just don't pay attention unless it affects a flypast. In saying that, today was lovely weatherwise so it's almost guaranteed to be raining tomorrow.😄

Ok thanks Vandal. I suppose it’s just pure bad luck that apart from the A.400M on the first flypast, the Weather has been crap?!

You're just feeling it worse because it's been nearly 3 years since the RAF have graced Edinburgh's skies at the Tattoo. The weather scuppers this years opportunities so the prospect of having to wait another 12 months just feels so frustrating.

You may have a point there Vandal, mind you we have had the bonus over the last few COVID ruined Years of RAF Aircraft making PDs at Edinburgh Airport, mainly transports etc.
