AW189 Coastguard operation over Forth

Post by 109sqn » Tue Feb 06, 2024 3:47 pm

Hope I don't get my knuckles rapped as this isn't technically a military topic.

A Leonardo AW189 flew over recently and I thought it was possibly a Coastguard helicopter. Sure enough, it came from Prestwick and is currently performing a very precise sweep of the Forth between Cramond and Leith, working northwards as it goes. I hope this is just a training exercise but as it's doing such an intense sweep I wonder...

After flying around Cramond Island and then the area immediately to the east of the Forth Bridges, it returned Prestwick.

Was searching for a woman who had gone missing during the night after they found her car parked at the promenade I believe, search was continued by Police helicopter for a shortwhile,I believe they sadly recovered her body at Gullane some 25km further down the forth.
