Re: USN F35c landing mishap/pilot ejection
No statement regarding the aircraft status.
Re: USN F35c landing mishap/pilot ejection
I'd be more concerned about the status of those injured, rather than the jet.
Re: USN F35c landing mishap/pilot ejection
"The pilot safely ejected from the aircraft and was recovered via U.S. military helicopter. The pilot is in stable condition. There were seven total Sailors injured; three Sailors required MEDEVAC to a medical treatment facility in Manila, Philippines, and four were treated by on-board medical personnel. All three MEDEVACs are assessed as stable. Of the four Sailors treated by on-board medical, three have been released. Additional details and the cause of the inflight mishap is under investigation."

Agree with the context, but I'd amend the term 'mechanical' to 'Technical', to cover numerous options.

Re: USN F35c landing mishap/pilot ejection
Quite a bit of discussion that this accident COULD be the result of an arrestor wire failure. Hence the injury to crewmen on deck, broken wire snaking everywhere??
Re: USN F35c landing mishap/pilot ejection
Given the number of deck crew injuries and the apparent extent of them it did occur to me straight away that it might be an arrestor wire failure of some sort. Which is why I wouldn't wish to appear foolish commentating on how bad the F-35 is (nor will I ever just yet, it's a pretty massive capability step to any previous) until the facts are known.
Re: USN F35c landing mishap/pilot ejection
One of the biggest issues in the development of the C model was it's arresting gear,
They spent a few years trying to sort it out.
Was a very big redesign of the arrestor hook system.

This will answer some questions

lThe U.S. Navy is planning to recover an F-35C stealth fighter that fell into the South China Sea after crash-landing on the USS Carl Vinson earlier this week, according to a Navy official.
The incident is the fifth in a series of Class-A mishaps involving the Carl Vinson’s aircraft contingent, Carrier Air Wing 2, in recent months.
The F-35C Lightning II was attempting to land aboard the aircraft carrier during routine flight operations on Monday. The jet struck the flight deck before falling into the water, 7th Fleet spokeswoman Cmdr. Hayley Sims told Stars and Stripes by phone Wednesday.
“The U.S. Navy is making recovery operations arrangements for the F-35 aircraft to be recovered, but I don’t have any details past that,” she said.
The pilot ejected and was picked up by a rescue helicopter, the Navy said Monday. Six other sailors were injured in the crash. Three were flown to a hospital in Manila, the Philippines; the remaining four were treated aboard the Carl Vinson.
All seven were in stable condition Wednesday afternoon, Sims said.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and no additional details were immediately available, Sims said. The “C” variant of the fifth-generation fighter is configured for carrier landings and costs approximately $103 million per aircraft, according to manufacturer Lockheed Martin.
The Carl Vinson was taking part in a dual-carrier training operation that began Sunday and included the USS Abraham Lincoln and their respective carrier strike groups.

With respect, don't think it answered any questions.
Re: USN F35c landing mishap/pilot ejection
There was a question about the status of the aircraft

sounds odd...LotusDriver10 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 12:05 amAlso another story relating to the pilot having some kind of health episode - his heart or something, something about him coming in too high and ejected and the plane bounced across the deck and into sea.
Quite an unusual event.

Bringing it a little back on track, Flight (bless 'em) report "Performance updates to the Pratt & Whitney F135 represent the best path to satisfying future increased power and efficiency requirements for the Lockheed Martin F-35". I'd've though a full review of Thunderbird 4s performance might be the way to go.
