Good bye Colerne Airfield.

The powers that be had decided that Colerne was no longer needed, so the last two BUAS personnel today said good-bye to Colerne Airfield, having spent the last few months packing up, returning equipment and generally closing down, turned off the lights and locked the doors.

Sad to see Colerne dying a slow death. I have many happy childhood memories of the base in the sixties visiting relatives in the village and watching aircraft ( mainly Hastings) bashing the circuit, and the odd visiting type if you were lucky! The village seemed to reverberate to the sound of piston engines either on ground running or in the air to me as a young lad! My late Grandfather worked on the base for a few years so we used to get gifted tickets from him for the Battle Of Britain Air Shows which probably started my interest in aviation.
