Storm Shadow captured

Post by slogen51 » Thu Jul 06, 2023 8:27 pm

According to the news a partially intact Storm Shadow has fallen into russian hands - it apparently either crashed or was shot down

The article mentions the Ukrainians air launch them from SU-24 modified with Tornado GR4 pylons

Interesting, Always thought the Tornado could only launch off the centreline shoulders ,Not wings ,Seen images with them on the wings but thought just for show.

In one of the photos it looks like a GR4 centreline pylon has been fitted to an SU-24 wing root pylon allowing for carriage.

A Not a scratch - just snapped!

No bent wing from impact!

A nice bit of black propaganda I feel.

There again, it was reported on social media, so it must be true.

Some of the more sensitive units in certain aircraft have internal detonation explosives which go 'bang' if the system isn't started up or shut down in the prescribed way. Makes bench testing these units 'interesting' .Would be quite surprising if the electronics inside something like SS didn't have similar protections. Ok, you can't blow the airframe up, but you can make sure that intelligence gained from examination of the internal circuits and software/firmware is minimised.
