EA-18 Loss - San Diego
All
I don't think this has been reported here, yet:

Looks like the locals were lucky, which along with the crew getting out is good news.

Very lucky for the locals, another 200mtrs or so that and was coming down in a residential area.
Amazing how these things are always captured on camera

According to a message on Scramble the 166855/NL-520 from VAQ-135 is involved.

Crikey - we saw a hornet coded 520 outside the NAD at NAS North Island - near the museum storage area - you could only see the nose section but I thought it looked clean - there was also a fresh looking E-2D 168992 no markings so I wondered if that area was the post maintenance flight check area?

Re: EA-18 Loss - San Diego
Apologies - NL 520 mentioned above was recently at Nellis on Red Flag - presumably moved west for exercise Bamboo
Just a coincidence I guess that another 520 was at NI

Wow, that's some crash. This is just to the right of the hotel we stayed at In San Diego last September whilst at the Miramar Airshow. Enjoyed sitting on the balcony watching F18's, H-60's, C17's, V-22's and other types landing on and taking off. Maybe will be a little more aware on my next visit!Thunder wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 12:34 amVery lucky for the locals, another 200mtrs or so that and was coming down in a residential area.

Re: EA-18 Loss - San Diego
Perversely the adverse weather conditions may have helped as the crash location is close to where the exit/entrance to where various yacht clubs moor up (including one my Mother-in-Law is a member). Better weather may have seen more boats in that very area.
Also in my experience I have rarely seen fast jets use runway 29 (not that I'm there on a daily basis, sadly!)

Generally, last September, they were using 18 for dept and 29 for landing although did use 29 for a few depts.Nighthawk237 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 9:11 amPerversely the adverse weather conditions may have helped as the crash location is close to where the exit/entrance to where various yacht clubs moor up (including one my Mother-in-Law is a member).
