Vastly different skillset and toolkit I would imagine.

I wonder what Trump's / US military / Homeland Security response with be ? Visits and photography has been hard enough around USA bases since 911.
Expect it will now become even harder, every vehicle which stops or parks within sight of a base will be considered a threat.

Indeed, although any truck doesn't need to be near the perimeter, it's going to be extremely difficult to locate them. Lot's of bases have busy highways nearby. I'm sure it'll make them twitchy though.Doughnut wrote: ↑Mon Jun 02, 2025 3:37 pmI wonder what Trump's / US military / Homeland Security response with be ? While I take my hat off to the Ukrainians for their initiative and daring in pulling off this successful mission, let's not forget that it is also a two edged sword. I can remember an incident back in the 1990's (during the troubles), when John Major and some of his cabinet were 'mortered' at 10 Downing Street, by the IRA with pipe bombs. The projectiles were launched from inside a transit van (with a large hole cut out of it's roof), that was parked up a couple of streets away. The contraption used for the attack was a series of charged metal pipes welded together, aimed with a timer to set it off. Very crude set up, but it worked - did what it says on the tin.
Come forward to today thirty odd years later, we now have drone technology, which is readily available over the counter. What's to stop a bunch of terrorists/nutters from pulling off a similar atrocity against the public?

Everyone has a photographic memory; some just don't have film.

time to ring the TACO bell

I’d imagine that after the criticisms of the actions of blue light people and MI5 people after the Arianna Grande attack in Manchester … that GCHQ, MI5 and others will have upped their game.roughcutter wrote: ↑Tue Jun 03, 2025 8:19 amCome forward to today thirty odd years later, we now have drone technology, which is readily available over the counter. I remember massive Drone hysteria on facebook a while back with Joe Public demanding to know what was going on …
need to know basis rules here.

TACO = Trump Always Chickens Out. It’s the new acronym/nickname given to him because of his on-again-off-again tariff nonsense.

I would imagine that downing street, royal residences would be surrounded by the best of BAE HBRD systems (hit it, block it, return it or detonate).roughcutter wrote: ↑Tue Jun 03, 2025 8:19 amWhile I take my hat off to the Ukrainians for their initiative and daring in pulling off this successful mission, let's not forget that it is also a two edged sword. Simple truth is russia don't have enough money, time or resources to surround every substantial airbase with drone defence tech.
Re: Russian aircraft drone attack
It is going to be very interesting to see how the MOD deal with the possible ramifications of this attack. Maybe reducing your basing capacity and literally putting all of your eggs in just a couple of baskets so to speak was not such a good idea after all.

Crikey that’s a lot of hits. Even if it’s not totally destroyed, a drone exploding anywhere on an aircraft is going to take it out of action for a while…if not for good. Especially if it’s old and Russian.Kurnass wrote: ↑Wed Jun 04, 2025 4:39 pmhttps://x.com/servicessu/status/1930255 ... 71620?s=46

I asked the same question, see page 1.
In this world there's two kinds of people, my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig. You dig.
