My point is i was sent to war, without knowing how to use a SUSAT, but they wanted to waste money on civvies who wanted to waste money, try standing behind someone who gets blown up opening a door, and when the coffin gets taken home, it's just sand to make the weight of a body, get some time in a warzone, then you may have some opinion.
My point about the george cross, if a military person is brave in a so-called civvie area, they get a george cross, THERE NEVER IS A CIVVIE AREA FOR US, same rounds, RPGs ,IEDs they all kill

Guys come on, keep it civil please!

You dont have had to have been to a war zone to have an opinion, you dont need to see somebody being blown up to have an opinion.

Now play nice or this gets locked for good.

Thanks

Looks like this thread has caused a rather 'interesting' debate!!! I'd like to put my point of view across if I may.

It appears that some of our members have served in combat zones and been awarded their rightly deserved medals for putting themselves in harms way. There are also those who have not served but can see where recognition due should be awarded. But do these people feel that the military medics, chefs, suppliers who also serve in the combat zones but stay within the confines of the likes of Camp Bastion or a RN/RFA ship at sea deserve to receive the medals aswell? I'm sure that most, will agree that they deserve the recognition too. My point is that if they receive the medal for serving then why should the civvies not receive that recognition too when serving in exactly the same area as the service men and women? A bullet, RPG, mortar, bomb or missile will kill anyone, not just those wearing the military uniforms.

For your info, I have served in the RAF and now work as a civil servant with the MOD.

Very for real, i take great offence in someone comparing being in an office in Yorkshire to what happened in places like Iraq and Afghanistan, i did go out of the camp, and got the same sort of recognition as people who seem to be willing in just destroying the military i was in, being told that you cannot be taught how to use a sight on a rifle until you get in theatre isn't the best feeling, so if you want, call me knuckle head, but im just pleased i still have one, no thanks to those who got the medal even though it was "their department" that sent me there in that situation.

Colt 99,

I think you maybe missing the point of this thread, this medal which awards all those in theatre is a Service medal, nothing to do with bravery on the field. All those that get awarded a service medal have served In Theatre, i.e. - the war zone. No one who sits , as you say, in an office in Yorkshire will recieve this medal, but those that serve in Afghanistan will.

I cannot compare seeing colleagues and friends killed in front of my eyes, and for the soldiers on the front line I have the greatest respect and admiration. I still have friends on the NSW and Junglie sqns, if they are in theatre for a length of time then surely no one can begrudge them a SERVICE medal, likewise MOD staff working there.

Again the real villians in the piece, politician, are escaping our ire

Just my thoughts

Mark
