Hawk T2 role demo to replace Tucano display in 2015

Post by Gary » Mon Feb 09, 2015 12:34 pm

Tucano display team have just twitted there will be on display this year, but IV(R) will perform a role demo in the Hawk T2 :thumb:

The Tucano Display Team will not operate in 2015. Instead the Hawk T2 will provide a role demonstration to showcase fast-jet flying training

That's a shame, I rather like the Tucano displays. Probably the only one here that does! However, the T2 display could be good.

You are certainly not the only one, Stug, as the Tucano display has always, IMHO, been slick, sharp, and a great watch ;)

Looking forward to the T2 display just as much, as it should showcase something a bit different

Cheers

Will be good to see Hawk T2 out and about on display circuit :) Shame the Tucano is not displaying, as they do a great job! Will be interesting to see if they do a scheme  If not, atleast we still have RAF assets in the show ;)

T2 Role demo - takes off, disappears over the horizon, returns hour and a half later and lands.

Nope, another Tucano fan here Stug. Sorry to see it go, but at least the T2 is a lot more photogenic than the T1.

But why does it have to replace it? Why not have both? Presumably penny pinching again! :@

Tucano is old hat now with MFTS approaching. Hawk T2 is the shiny new face the RAF wants to portray to the public, even if only foreign students get to fly it while RAF students soldier on with the T1...

I'd imagine it was an opinion, as opposed to fact :)

According to the RAF Valley Facebook page, the Hawk T2 role demo is a pair :thumb:
Flt Lt's Ben Polwin and Toby Keeley from IV(R) Sqn, RAF Valley, planning their display for the new Hawk T2 Role Demo for the 2015 airshow season. The two-ship display will showcase the capabilities of the BAE Hawk T2, one of the worlds most advanced fast-jet trainers. Ben and Toby are both highly experienced fast jet pilots, and are QFI's (Qualified Flying Instructors) with IV(R) Sqn. Watch this space - we'll be following Ben and Toby throughout the season!

Clarification, I was referring to the comment about foreign students only flying the T2, wasn't commenting on the Tucano opinion part. Opinion is opinion.

However, interesting if it's going to be a 2-ship.

My understanding, although not official, is that the two IV Sqd Special tailed aircraft will be used. They will keep the tail design but lose the "100"

These will be fired at Ben & Toby in the role demo at airfield shows only. Who needs red/white/blue smoke #no1display

We were briefed by the team last night, and were privileged to see a practice today. The role demo (we were warned not to expect a display of aerobatics) will include pyrotechnics and smoky SAMs after a 500kt / 100ft arrival.

Just for the record, I, too think that the Tucarno is a smart looking aircraft and must be great to fly. The demos have been great to watch, the scheme well worth capturing. Sad that it will not be around this season.
Two T2s showing off their capabilities is certainly worth a trip to witness. If it generates sales & extends the production run until we need more of them, sounds like a Plan.
An updated version might do as a Tornado replacement arising from the next defence review. Who knows, if we carry on as we are today, operating Typhoons against terrorists armed with AK 47s & riding Honda 90s will be too expensive.

There's no "go-round" in a glider.

;)
You obvious haven't seen the classified upgrade package for the T3 that includes removal of personnel equipment and incorporates UAV technology.

We are trying to punch above our weight, spending money that we do not have/generate. Can someone explain why we are sending aircraft to bomb/kill people in a country when such a policy did not work on the previous four periods that we were active there?

Back on topic, why will the two aircraft be showing off how effective they are at going "bang & whoosh" if they could not be used by us to bomb & whoosh. Not a very effective sales pitch in my opinion.

Politics aside, I look forward to the demo, it should make for some good "shots". :D
