IX(B) tail markings

Post by newage » Sun Jun 12, 2016 7:22 am

Hi all
I did post this on the FB group page but never got a proper answer.

Do any of the IX(B) GR4s from Marham still have the Bat emblem on the tail?

I know the anniversary GR4 has been scrapped.

Cheer

I'll move the thread to the Marham section, one of the posters in there is with the squadron. He should have the answer. Can't remember seeing a marked jet for a while though

Being on IX(B) at Marham, personally i havent seen any jets with a Bat on, ive seen pictures in the last year of one jet from Lossie with a bat and thats it. The IX(B) anniversary tail is back at Marham now too, had to move it a few month ago, the 12 sqn fin is at Marham too, all the sqns will be recieving their tails as a gift to be displayed somewhere outside their buildings or on the HAS site too from what ive heard.

Most the jets now have no markings at all. If they do have sqn marking it will be most likely 31 marks, 095 and 011 are the only jets i can think of that ive seen recently with 2 sqn marks but they have now both gone to RTP and ive seen 1 or 2 with 12 sqn marks, think there was 1 or 2 left with 617 marks around last year but they have now been changed or scrapped too

I believe that the Tornado GR4's are going to be like the Harriers ie:No Squadron markings.
this is not the first time, the AVRO Vulcan B2 fleet was like this with, what was then, centerised maintinace

Last time I saw the Bat tail, it photobombed a shot I took of a German Tornado at Leeming back in October.

Not the " Bat " but there was the one operating out of RAF Coningsby last week with the white/red cross of Lorraine on the fin.
