pilot watches
Re: pilot watches
I had a Breitling Super Ocean up untill recently. It was of the older design with the yellow face.
I also collect all the catalogues each year for Breitling.Having had the watch it opened up a few doors for me at airshows with getting access to enclosures.
In relation to types i think Breitling is the most used with the Emergency and Navitimer being the most popular.Schaffhausen is also a company that is used by the small percentage that can afford them. The last one i tried on was 18k,but they are the best of the best.
Jim.

This one has been done for the 50th Anniversary of the Phabulous Phantom - thought you would like to see it - limited edition of 50 pieces

Re: pilot watches
Would love that phantom watch.
I wonder what the asking price is or are they given to a chosen few?

Re: pilot watches
The Seiko 7T27 7A20 was the MoD's weapon of choice to issue to fast jet crew until not so long back. Now it appears to be various assortments of Breitlings. I have the Breitling Airwolf and the Seiko 7T27 7A20. The Seiko is tiny (and light) compared to the Airwolf but it can't compete with the Breitlings computational power and NVG compatible back lighting.
Breitling are oft commissioned by RAF squadrons to produce a run of watches with a squadron bird on the face akin to the Phantom one herein. The Aerospace version is the most popular (titanium version) for crew watches. It is usually a run of 25+ for Breitling to make a special edition for an RAF squadron. Don't forget your useful discount on Breitlings for MoD personnel.

Re: pilot watches
Without a doubt this Phantom one will be a collectors item and not many left now! Many of the Squadron/Unit watches become even more valuable - the SAS ones are hugely collectible - especially the first edition ones. We do some of the graphics for the Squadron ones and the F-4 ones will always be very special. The most recent one that we have done is the F3 and it will have an F3 engraved on the back too! They are all very nice - my particular favourite is the Jaguar one (the first edition one) and my other half is especially fond of the F-16 one but again there are a few different editions of the F-16 ones. If you are ever in Newark go in to Andrew Michaels the Jewellers - he has a huge range of Breitlings as he is the dealer who organises the specialist squadron commissioned ones and many are on display.
Re: pilot watches
Yes, he sorted out the 25th (and last) Harrier Breitling for my Brother in law who was once a 20 (R) Sqn Crew Chief for the Harrier Display Team. We met the guy at RIAT '08 on the Breitling Stand and he said he had the last one available as one of the Harrier guys had pulled out. Yes, the Breitling Stand was doing very good business considering the show was cancelled. I fancy the Chronomat B01 next.Squadron Prints wrote:If you are ever in Newark go in to Andrew Michaels the Jewellers - he has a huge range of Breitlings as he is the dealer who organises the specialist squadron commissioned ones and many are on display.

Re: pilot watches
I think it was the weapon of choice for all front end aircrew, not just the pointy ones... For the last 5 years at least it was replaced with one (well, two in fact, as pilot's weren't entitled to chronograph watches, only Navs/WSOs) of Seiko's budget brand, Pulsar's, examples. Until recently you could pick one up (with a green rather than blue strap) in Argos, and still have change from £50. Having said that, I believe they're now being withdrawn, after people fiddled and they had "technical malfunctions" (fell apart).Truly55 wrote:The Seiko 7T27 7A20 was the MoD's weapon of choice to issue to fast jet crew until not so long back.

I suspect I'll have bought a Breitling by the time they get round to issuing a decent watch!

Re: pilot watches
