He got out, but way too late!Rory wrote:looks like a MiG23 rather than the BN.

The Grand Tour.
Re: 48 hours for Libyan Freedom ??
This is the sort of littoral small war that has been a key plank of military strategy in recent years. Hence the UK buying the carriers and F35's.
I was wondering if they will use Sub-launched Tomahawks first. Take out air defence sites - maybe a shot at Gaddafi's main HQ's....?
This was the pattern against the Serbs with RN assets firing the first salvo.
Doesn't sound like there's much time left if loyalist tanks are now in Benghazi.
Perhaps the Snapshot is already up and scanning for the heavy armour?

The rebels are not having much luck with their assets. They have also lost a MiG-21 near Bengazhi.

Jut seen this on Scramble http://srnnews.townhall.com/photos/view ... 182382155/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; What I dont get is, under the photo it mentions "Aviano United Kingdom" So is this the Can Force F18's at Prestwick, or USN Growlers at Aviano?
Re: 48 hours for Libyan Freedom ??
I'd be inclined to guess that it was some sort of turbine failure. I could only hear sporadic small arms fire on the video, mixed with a little bit of DSHk fire. Couldn't hear any true AA fire getting up, or the telltale rattle of the ZSU either. If it were a shot, its a hell of a lucky one.SteveS wrote:The way it went straight down implies a catastrophic failure or that it was shot down - it clearly lost the ability to remain airborne immediately after the explosion was seen, rather than something like a bird strike, where the aircraft could continue to glide.
Heck, what do I know...

If its the same ones I've seen on the BBC site, they're FA18Es, so they're the Yank ones.pikey01 wrote:Jut seen this on Scramble http://srnnews.townhall.com/photos/view ... 182382155/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; What I dont get is, under the photo it mentions "Aviano United Kingdom" So is this the Can Force F18's at Prestwick, or USN Growlers at Aviano?

Nice to see we are last in sending in our jets even though it was our idea!

Re: 48 hours for Libyan Freedom ??
Looks like a low altitude ejection - wonder if the Pilot made it? No news channels are saying about him.
When will we act?

Re: 48 hours for Libyan Freedom ??
Pilot did not make, footage showed him ejecting and the chute having no time to open and it showed hitting the ground at a fair rate.
Dutch Premier gave hints in his speech that imminent strikes likely to take place later this afternoon/evening.

Re: 48 hours for Libyan Freedom ??
French Air Force are stating that they have now recce'd the "whole" of Libya this afternoon.
So, one of the bases in the central southern region of Libya has Mig 25s and other aircraft stationed there so why haven't we heard of any Libyan interceptors doing CAP over Libya?

If they are not flying Rich then they will be nothing to report. Maybe Gadaffi is playing the long game?RichC wrote:so why haven't we heard of any Libyan interceptors doing CAP over Libya?

Re: 48 hours for Libyan Freedom ??
Have a feeling they are unserviceable like much of his aircraft or atleast in a poor state.
Noticed a French A340 coming out of Algeria earlier routing back to France. Close to the border of Libya.

Re: 48 hours for Libyan Freedom ??
Im pretty sure when the last Lavex airshow happened in 2009, although there was a Mig 25 in static, the word was that those types have been retired. As for CAP, perhaps they have been caught out? The Coaltion said they probably wouldnt have assets in place until sunday...RichC wrote:one of the bases in the central southern region of Libya has Mig 25s and other aircraft stationed there so why haven't we heard of any Libyan interceptors doing CAP over Libya?
