If its the same ones I've seen on the BBC site, they're FA18Es, so they're the Yank ones.
Look to be EA-18Gs from that picture (if its the correct picture that is)!! as they have the Jamming Pods on the outboard and centerline station with a 2 wet config.

A KC135 calling WHISLTE?? 92 was dragging 6 Jets across from the Mid East AO earlier this morning, could be connected?

That's what I understood too.

Although a source from Wikipedia (yes, I know) says:

"LAF - Operated a large number of MiG-25, some sources say more than 60 were delivered. Types were of the MiG-25PD, MiG-25RBK, MiG-25PU and MiG-25RU variants. They were operated by No.1025 Squadron at Jufra-Hun, No.1055 Squadron at Ghurdabiya and an unidentified squadron at Sabqa. Current status of the force is unknown."

Im pretty sure when the last Lavex airshow happened in 2009, although there was a Mig 25 in static, the word was that those types have been retired. As for CAP, perhaps they have been caught out? The Coaltion said they probably wouldnt have assets in place until sunday...
Graham here is the 25 that was in the Static

WHISTLER is allocated to KC10As *but* regarding Middle East Ops, it is also allocated to several types of tankers and reconnaissance aircraft.
Each type is allocated a certain suffix as not to confuse.
So, it can be KC135s as well.

Probably trying to find an airframe which isn't unserviceable or looking in their wallets to see if we can afford it first.
It does state that French, British and Danish aircraft will conduct the first strikes tonight/tomorrow.
All the other forces are in theatre i believe, the only ones that are not, are the Typhoons and Tornados. But given that, its a 4hr flight down to Libya with a tanker, quite able to conduct missions straight from going down there like they did in Serbia, operating from Bruggen in Germany.
They may do this and then land at a forward base after.

Been thinking about this, perhaps our participation is just eye in the sky? We know there is at least one Nimrod and two E3's operating out that way. Pretty sure theres at least one Vc10, and possibly a Shadow.

Angela Merkel has confirmed Germany's military won't be taking part in direct action.

Silvio Berlusconi has said Italy may step up to take part.

EDIT: "Italy's Berlusconi says proposed NATO base in Naples be used as command centre for allied action in Libya"

Just found this -
British jets will be performing a range of tasks, with RAF Tornadoes aiming at targets on the ground, Typhoons performing air-to-air sorties, and Awacs planes and Sentinel R1s helping with mapping the ground and reconnaissance.

So I wonder when they go?
