Not sure what this term "new government" refers to. The US has had a single agreement with the UK since the 50s, there isn't a new set of requirements and new basing agreements written each time the US president changes.Dan M wrote:Where do the MOD stand with regard to selling the base should the USAF decide that the new government wants to keep it? Surely a decision to sell ultimately lies with the americans?
If the US has agreed its exit from the base with the UK government, and the UK government has based a subsequent announcement about building new houses and raising money from their exit then I'd say the chances of a U-turn are quite small.

I agree regretablely but it is time to forget wishful thinking and enjoy what you are having and what you had.
Re: RAF Mildenhall to close. Lakenheath to get F-35 by 2020
Read last week that the first F-35's will arrive at Lakenheath in March 2021. Obviously that's the current projected target, a lot could change by then.

The USAF story starts at 06.10mins, I found it interesting & I certainly wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of the SPS dogs they had on show

And there's plenty more where that came from!
Re: RAF Mildenhall to close. Lakenheath to get F-35 by 2020
I distinctly heard the date '2023' mentioned
Where has that come from
Watched it live and watched it again, just in case my hearing is getting impaired
NOTHING is more noisy than a 'vaark in full 'burner

There is plenty of time for a few curve balls to be thrown in there, especially if the loony with the wig gets into power!!

just to throw a spanner in the works so to speak, I have heard that the TDY RC 135s will relocate to Waddington along with our AIRSEEKERS and some KC 135s will be based there also on TDY don't shoot the messenger

Re: RAF Mildenhall to close. Lakenheath to get F-35 by 2020
Why does this Airseeker name keep persisting? It was a project name only. The RAF call them RC135W Rivet Joints and if my word on that isn't good enough, check out their own website:
http://www.raf.mod.uk/equipment/rc135wrivetjoint.cfm
There is no mention whatsoever of Airseeker anywhere.

Been led to believe that the TDY RC 135s will relocate down here to Fairford and that whu there is so much work go on at the base to get it ready

Thought the Rivet Joints be going to Waddo -due to convenience - , commonality with our Airseeker, the support infrastructure already there ...city42 wrote:Been led to believe that the TDY RC 135s will relocate down here to Fairford and that whu there is so much work go on at the base to get it ready

Re: RAF Mildenhall to close. Lakenheath to get F-35 by 2020
Wasn't there also some concern from the Americans over security (presumably due to asserts being based at Waddington) that helped kill the air show post runway re-build?Ravendriver2008 wrote:Thought the Rivet Joints be going to Waddo -due to convenience - , commonality with our Airseeker, the support infrastructure already there ...city42 wrote:Been led to believe that the TDY RC 135s will relocate down here to Fairford and that whu there is so much work go on at the base to get it ready

Is there room for the 488th at Waddington? Don't know.
Re: RAF Mildenhall to close. Lakenheath to get F-35 by 2020

There may be room but does the RAF want them there?
