I have to display my ignorance here and say it's a place I haven't been to.
What were the GG's?

An F-100 and and F-105.

Think I'm right in saying that the F-105 was originally sent to Upper Heyford as a BDR frame, but the base commander discovered he'd flown it in Vietnam.

Been told recently by an Ayhno resident that Croughton is on the list to be shutdown, some of the equipment there has been removed already and moved to eastern Europe where the US are sharing a comm's base, another strategic cut back or Brexit, who know's ???

They were still in place last Friday. No sign of them being scrapped

I hope they haven't been scrapped! I'm not sure of their condition, but surely some of the museums around the UK would have been able to offer these airframes a home?
Although, having said that, there is a massive amount of red tape to get through when it comes to acquiring USAF airframes, which I guess costs a great deal of time and money that some museums just cannot afford?

You are correct assets from Alconbury and Molesworth are relocating to Croughton over the next few years.

Last 2 comments are spot on - they are looking for additional peronel accomodation over the next few year through the company I work for

Back on topic - really hope they have not been scrapped - did not seem in that bad a condition when I last saw them. Can remember photographing them both at the UH Open Days

Up until a few months ago I was driving past these pretty much every week, they were looking a bit grubby but, from what I could see, were otherwise sound.

Drove past them a few times in the last couple of months, and should have stopped for photos..

I was doing the driving today. - it was raining - and there was some kind of protest going on outside the gate - but I'm sure they were not where the used to stand.

Really hope I'm wrong....

Interestingly the WAG updates page this week states that they are both currently stored at Molesworth.

I understand that they were both in a pretty poor state and have been removed to the DLA disposal facility which is at Molesworth, sadly it would appear that they are both going for scrap.

I heard this last week and took a detour to try and get some record photos, they were both down and being broken up (literally) on Wed. Looked like they were on the way to a scrap yard as scrap metal.

When gurkha1 said Croughton was closing I nearly put in a bid for a Yagi antenna.
