No longer a military airfield but with a proud history going back to the 1st World War, it looks if Old Sarum airfield is about to close in the non-distance future.

There are still some original hangars on site and I would have thought they would have been listed.

BDAC museum tweeted about this a couple of days ago. They said "We are obviously saddened by these matters, however, we will be operating as normal.", so not affecting them immediately. Don't know about the airfield cafe, must be very concerning for them.

Anyone got any updates on this situation?

From what I can find via a Google search it looks like posturing against the council planners, trying to force their hand.......here's hoping for a resolution that prevents closure of this great airfield.

I believe the owners are/were a Dutch concern and had been trying to get planning permission for development for years.they even bulldozed a couple of pill boxes on the site.

Talking to a Microlight Pilot who have a Plane at Old Sarum, they have to leave by the 31st October, general opinion the rest of the aircraft owners think it is just sabre rattling and they will be offered another 1,2 or 3 month contract. Although B.D.A.C. are safe, as the Airfield owners do not own the hangars they are in, a lot of visitors to the Collection come from the Go -Fly and Go- skydive operation on the Airfield, and If they go it will be in effect a dead Airfield, which will ultimately affect visitor numbers. here`s hoping they sort something out.
