Re: UK Seeking Adversary Jets Once Again
Economically and practically a non starter but wouldn't it be great if they used the Su-22, Buccaneer and F-4F at Scampton.
In this world there's two kinds of people, my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig. You dig.
Re: UK Seeking Adversary Jets Once Again
So basically what they are asking is someone to purchase 100 sqn. & it’s complement of Hawk MK1 & to leave it at Leeming. Except they’ll all have a Babcock badge on them?
Re: UK Seeking Adversary Jets Once Again
hope leeming remains open

Re: UK Seeking Adversary Jets Once Again
It appears the requirements are pointing towards different type and capabilities to the TMk.1. Draken are possibly in the frame and to provide combat training over the North Sea, they could be based elsewhere (Netherlands?). The MoD are looking for MAA & CAA compliance which brings with it all sorts of complications, which may put the Hawk T1 back in the frame?
Re: UK Seeking Adversary Jets Once Again
Recently there were Canadian owned A4s being flown out of Germany. I saw them on ADBS but quite when escapes me

Re: UK Seeking Adversary Jets Once Again
So if the airfield needs to be within 30 minutes of the north sea areas, what does that mean for FOST & culdrose and Yeovilton
Re: UK Seeking Adversary Jets Once Again
The Top Aces fleet at Wittmund has increased quite a lot lately, in total some 7 Skyhawks (1 TA-4J among them) and 3 Alpha Jets

Re: UK Seeking Adversary Jets Once Again
The original plan was for 736NAS to disband a couple of months ago and 100 Sqn (out of service date 2025+) to take over their tasking, possibly by a deployment down south, a bit like 19 Sqn did at St. Athan up to 2008. But they are still flying.
I don't know if the Navy will raise their own tasking request, but I presume the Falcons are still a key part.
Re: UK Seeking Adversary Jets Once Again
Does the thirty minute transit time have any relevance other than to stop the adversary fleet being based outside the UK ? If they were based in Germany could they avoid CAA regulations ?
Re: UK Seeking Adversary Jets Once Again
It's not to do where they are based but where (i.e country) they are registered.

Re: UK Seeking Adversary Jets Once Again
The Pre-Qualification Questionnaire was released yesterday, it was short on detail but on the face of it there is no support to FOST, RNSFC nor JFACTSU; it is purely for the RAF. What is evident is that they require 2,000hrs of an air-to-air radar and RWR equipped platform, so unless somebody has magiced some Hawk mk203s out of a hat you're not gonna see one of Brough's products.teeonefixer wrote: ↑Wed Nov 03, 2021 10:18 pmThe original plan was for 736NAS to disband a couple of months ago and 100 Sqn (out of service date 2025+) to take over their tasking, possibly by a deployment down south, a bit like 19 Sqn did at St. Athan up to 2008. There's a long thread on this topic in PPrune on this with comments by people who know lots more than me about requirements vs capabilities of the different platforms and the sort of regulatory hoops they will have to go through.BARON243.9 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 27, 2021 8:59 amThe Pre-Qualification Questionnaire was released yesterday, it was short on detail but on the face of it there is no support to FOST, RNSFC nor JFACTSU; it is purely for the RAF. We all agree it has been done in a bit of a rush.

The deal was released earlier in the year, but yesterday/today Draken signed a contract for purchase of a number of Dutch F-16's and equipment..... interesting development which may be of relevance

The article, and other information, seems to point to these being used on the US contracts, time will tell!steamy wrote: ↑Wed Dec 01, 2021 11:37 amThe deal was released earlier in the year, but yesterday/today Draken signed a contract for purchase of a number of Dutch F-16's and equipment..... interesting development which may be of relevance
