The F-35B does not need wind over the bow to take off. Refer the testing and training videos on YouTube showing take-offs from non-moving ramps on the ground. Here's one:-

Re: F35 Update
Interesting comment on this website about why it has taken some time to locate the wreckage of this F35B. As you would expect the precise location of the ship was noted when the incident occurred, but the aircraft essentially 'flew' under the water because the wings were doing their job and supporting it.https://ukdefencejournal.org.uk/crashed ... n-sea-bed/
Re: F35 Update
new rumour heard and it apparently sucked in a helicopter intake cover (cant see that happening myself) and it was an American pilot.
Re: F35 Update
The UK MoD has already publicly briefed it was a British pilot, although no elaboration as to whether RAF or RN. Not too sure they would release such a blatent untruth or why. Where's your rumour from, reliable?
Re: F35 Update
I heard another rumour, that I just made up there, that it was an Algerian pilot and the F-35 sucked in his camel cover... camel is OK though

Re: F35 Update
The expected attrition rate of UK F35B's is shown here and is one loss per 30000 hours of flying. As UK jets have flown 10000 hours, with this present loss we are well ahead of the curve

Re: F35 Update
If ZM152 is the article then I am glad I made the effort to watch Ghost 21 leave Marham for the Carrier back in May as I only saw it once before as a distant view on the ILS to 24 at Lakenheath.
Re: F35 Update
ZM152 now reported as having been recovered from the seabed:

Re: F35 Update
New gate guard for Marham then
Re: F35 Update
Reported to be a chartered salvage ship. Can anyone ID it or have any idea of the fate? A soggy F-35 going through Portsmouth harbour is probably not what the MOD needs right now!
Re: F35 Update
some media reports of the wreck going to an allies airbase in the Med - my *guess* to Sigonella

Re: F35 Update
Statistically, no we are not, unless we had a second loss within the first 30000 hours.Snoop 95 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 07, 2021 2:11 pmThe expected attrition rate of UK F35B's is shown here and is one loss per 30000 hours of flying.
