Reported elsewhere that they have gone to Rota and will not be returning to Yuma via UK.

There is a dedicated HMSQE thread under "Military Marine Monitoring" - see viewtopic.php?f=355&t=180044&start=440

According to the post by Phantom29 on Sun Oct 31, 2021 8:22 pm "CSG21 was originally announced as a 28 week deployment. Based on a 22 May departure, that might make the return to Portsmouth Sat 4 Dec."

I think you’ll find most Navies carriers depart aircraft to their shore bases when close to their home ports, including the Merlins! USN always do it with their carrier wings too.

Think back (for those of my age) Phantoms, Buccaneers and Gannets joined Ark Royal & Eagle when they were at sea and left before arrival back in Pompey.

Would be rather noisy and hazardous when alongside for conventional fixed-wing jet aircraft, but I seem to recall that the F35B's did landings and take-offs from HMS Queen Elizabeth when alongside in Portsmouth in 2019 or 2020.

I think just one F35 departed HMS QE while alongside in Portsmouth, due to being u/s when the others flew off.

At long last...a valid reason for NOT having Cats-n-Traps! Knew there had to be one somewhere.

My point exactly, I'm not sure what the OP was trying to highlight?

The OP never highlighted or mentioned anything about carrier based aircraft leaving before or after the ship docks(except that the USMC contingent had departed).

Having read the thread back, it was yourself that first mentioned it🤷‍♂️

Agreed, that was unclear, by OP I meant the OP about the Merlin Carrier comment, not the thread starter, again I was (am) unclear to the comment that as the F-35's have left to go on shore, the ship will revert back to being a Merlin carrier?
