Crusty, there are many, many worse countries to live than here. Be grateful for what we have, or do some traveling if you're not sure you like it here. You would soon return.......

Even now, in these difficult times, to 3/4 of the world, being born an Englishman is likened to winning the lottery!!.

As much as yes this kind of thing happens, they're not a direct replacement or perform the same role, or able to carry the complete weapons load or have the performance of the Typhoon so one would hope it's not like for like.............. however............

Think the idea is to build up our Armed Forces, not replace one type for another! One thing that has taught both the UK and NATO Allies,(especially in Europe), is that constant cost cutting and shrinking of “Military capability” is now deemed a backward step! There are several countries that are now gearing up to meet the 2% of GDP on defence….there are some UK ministers/military commentators saying that many countries, including ours, should raise that sum to 4% of GDP.

In my opinion, over the coming years we will see a more “expanded” military, in all the forces! Extra F-35s will just form a part of that!

Originally we were proposing to purchase 138 F35s - then the defence review only confirmed 48, I suspect that around 70 - 80 was the planned buy all along, and this is a feeble attempt to 'look good' by the government and detracts from the fact that we are buying just over half of the number originally intended.

As they are coming in Blocks, I assume these will be built as Block 4 airframes?
