Moaners when the air force is too small...

Moaners when they try to expand the air force...

Indeed James ..
I seem to recall at one point in the early 1920s we only had 1 Fighter Sqn left after retiring all the WW1 types.

Sadly when Aerospace Publishing went bust never claimed a copy of the history of the RAF we did back in the 80s... As we were working on a hugely expanded several volume update

Crusty, there are many, many worse countries to live than here. Be grateful for what we have, or do some traveling if you're not sure you like it here. You would soon return.......
Thats rather presumptuous and wrong, Ive been all around the world matey and whilst there are many worse places, that in no way lessens the downright shittiness of this country under its current leadership compared to what it has and could be

Like you, Crusty, I've been around and about. I am not wrong, in my opinion, which, in this country, we are still fortunately allowed to have. Obviously EVERYTHING is this Government's fault, of course.Covid costing billions, defence of our borders etc People having children that they can't afford to have... drug users and alcoholics soaking up Health Service money, youngsters who would rather play on their X boxes than look for a job, nobody taking responsibility for their own predicament etc., etc., ad nauseum. If you think this lot are bad, and, of course they are not perfect, then wait till the next lot get in. Brewery and p.is up come to mind!. Only MY opinion, of course......... When you say' it could be,' what would you change???

Where is better? I seriously looked and when it came to the 'put up or shut up' moment, the UK, while not perfect, was unbeatable when you balanced, standard of living, safety, culture and choice. I go on holiday when I want something the UK can't provide like sun...

Replace "places" with aircraft and "country" with F-35, that probably sums up what most aviation enthusiasts of a certain age seem to think about F-35s. Not me though, glad we ordered more. I'm wondering which squadrons will be resurrected

Most likely will replace a Typhoon squadron which will have seniority over any of the current disbanded units. The RAF direction of travel is smaller, not larger.

They're not replacing Typhoons, and as I understand, the Typhoon squadrons will be maintained. There's a lot of other squadron numbers readily available for use.

I wouldn't be too sure of that. My money's on IX Sqn for F-35 eventually.

As always is the case, things may change, but the Chief of Defence staff last year stated intent to maintain a 7 squadron Typhoon structure, ultimately all Typhoon squadrons will cease, to be replaced by Tempest and whatever UAV's are proposed for then.

Which is all well and good, but the numbers simply don’t add up. Once the 30 or so remaining Tranche 1 aircraft are retired (and the Qatari funding for XII Sqn comes to an end) there’re simply won’t be enough jets to go around (just over 100) for 7 frontline squadrons, the Falklands flight (1435), an OCU (29), an OEU (41) and the BAES trials fleet.
