It's allegedly four A-400M, according to Grant Shapps (via the Mail):

He's asked for 4, but the fleet is having serviceability issues.

Thanks for the info but its pathetic we cant raise a few aircraft to honour all our Paras for what they do and have done.Yet our aircraft seem to be flying aid to everyone except the British Public.

Chucking some paratroopers out in France to provide aid to the UK seems an odd approach.

I think it’s worth noting that the C-47 could carry a max of 22 Paratroopers. So if the Army are going to drop 450 paratroopers as part of the remembrance/celebrations, that would take 20 C-47’s. Do people expect to see 20 A400’s in the air next week dropping over 2100 troops?

Think you missed it.All I meant was A400s and C-17s are flying aid packages all over the place..Delaying a few of these flights by a few hours to do the drop shouldnt have caused that much of a problem in the big picture. The supplies would still get there. The bit about the public was simply there are a lot of people here could do with supplies as well.

There wasn't that many aircraft that partook back in 2019, either. There's plenty of other things going on to commemorate it.
Also, if there's serviceability issues, that can't be helped. Aid hasn't got anything to do with it.

I find this at best ill considered. RAF transport aircraft are supporting a war that has massive implications for the UK and giving aid to people in desperate need.
and you would rather them stop so they can fly in a commemorative flypast.. Really?
Can I suggest you don't read the Daily Mail or Express!
Are you going to Normandy to see the anniversary?
and how much is the Royal Navy going to provide? - It was much more a seaborne landing than an airdrop...

Thise taking part will appreciate all that is done. Those who cannot be there but wish they could be will also appreciate those who are doing their bit. Anyone else probably doesn't care anyway.
My personal thanks to all those souls who served to help us enjoy our freedom.

Wife and I dance for a hobby. Danced Thursday and Friday. One of the best Waltz tunes is the theme from 'Band of Brothers'. Gave a little history lesson about this on the microphone in the interval. Turned out that the Uncle of one of the dancers was flying a C.47 in an early wave of paratroopers. Another lady said that we were able to dance because of them. A round of applause took place on both occasions.

Bernard’s views on this would have been worth listening to.
He is looking at the camera as he moved up the beach some two hours after the initial landing.

If we stopped aid drops, there is a very high chance that in a few years, you could have plenty of paratroopers jumping over British soil.....for slightly different reasons.

Another thing to think about concerns the people flying the aircraft. They are all subject to duty hours, which could be over-run if they made extra trips.
The other more pertinent one is whether or not we actually have enough aircrew to fly them.

Nah they don’t need to send paratroopers , just small boats

Not sure you fully understand the complexity of aircraft operations.

I don’t think any UK citizens are being bombed multiple times a day…
