A time machine, a DSLR and 3 choices-where would you go?

A lot of our nostalgia area photos include text from members wishing that they'd had a Digital SLR camera, 20, 30, 40 years ago.............

So the scenario is this. You have a time machine and a DSLR camera. You have 3 choices to visit an aviation related event, venue, RAF station or base anywhere in the world since the advent of powered flight.

Would you wish to witness a Squadron of Lancasters depart during World War Two, or capture the attack on Pearl Harbour. Is the jet era more your thing or maybe the Cold War time period?

When and where would you go? But remember you only have 3 choices to encapsulate over 100 years of Military Aviation history. Safe journey and remember to share your choices with us all.

Wish to capture a Civil aviation related event? Become a member of our sister forum, Civilian Aviation, here -

Jeez, only 3!?

1. RAF Thorpe Abbots - 1944 - 100th Bomb Group's B-17s coming home
2. RAF Broadwell - 1944 - 512/575 Sqn's C-47s towing Horsa gliders on D-Day
3. RAF Biggin Hill - Summer of 1940

Could have picked any of these though - RAF Chivenor in the 1980s, RAF Brawdy, RAF Pembrey Sands in the 1950s, RAF Binbrook, RAF Scampton in the 1940s, RAF Upper Heyford in the 1970s/80s, RAF Perdiswell and RAF Hockley Heath RLG in the 1940s, Castle Bromwich and Longbridge Austin Works in the 1940s, RAF Wellesbourne Mountford in the 40s...so many!

Ok, so I cheated and picked about 10, but hey ho. Great idea for a thread Goose.

Steve

If only this was available  I would like to go back to 1940, to witness RAF Biggin Hill scrambling it's fighters, to witness the air battles over Kent, low flying Spits, Hurris and the German Luftwaffe. I'd love to meet and photograph the FEW at the pub and at their airfields. Oh and have my photo taken shaking hands with Salor Malan and all the other great air aces. Even cross the channel and tog Galland and the Abberville Boys

Early 1970s RAF Marham – first on base visit Victors and B52 exchange

Early 1970s Lossiemouth – second on base visit Jaguars, Shackletons and Gannets

7 February 1983 Winthorpe – Vulcan XM594 delivery, bound to be better than I’ve uploaded in here!

Got to be the 2nd World War along the East Coast here South of Grimsby - just to see the Lancs going out on their Bombing Raids.
As for Airfields at that time - I would have been spoilt for choice round this area :thumb: .

The very sad part of it all would have been how few of them returned!!!

Think this thread Goose could run to many pages :thumb: .

Cheers Paul.

Farnborough, 4th September 1958. Black Arrows 22 ship loop.
Boscombe Down, 27 September 1964. TSR.2 first flight.
Londons Tower Bridge, 5th April 1968. Flight Lieutenant Alan Pollock, a flight commander in No. 1(F) Squadron RAF, flies his Hawker Hunter UNDERNEATH the upper span of the bridge (shortly before being relieved of duty for his actions). To see that,,,well!

Remember to all to take your time selecting your choices. I've used 2 pages of a note pad selecting mine and I still have a short list of 7!
