Tamiya F35B

Just had an email from eModels . 1st kit on the list is for a 1/72 Model of a F35B.

I thought the F35B only had 4 Wing Hardpoints. The Model shows 6? Tamiya always used to be quite accurate with there Models.

3 per wing on all variants. The only thing Tamiya got wrong was reboxing the Italeri kit, of which Italeri themselves did a less than stellar job of producing.

Academy or Hasegawa if you want an F-35B.

Just building the Academy Dave B kit. It's very good, with excellent fit and very few obvious join lines over the fuselage. Mine will end up as a 617 jet in due course.

None of the UK based airframes are tied to specific squadron AFAIK, so unless your WhIffing it that would be a struggle

Thanks for the comment Seven (of Nine?) I realise that RAF jets won't / don't wear squadron badges. Rather makes a mockery of a certain decal producer putting out a sheet with 17, 207, 617 badges on it, doesn't it?

The Academy kit is working it's way down the production line on the work bench. Luckily Academy provide a lot of the RAM coating to cover the airframe. The trick will be deciding which ones to put on an RAF machine!

Check as many photos as you can. The light coloured RAM pattern doesn't appear on the later deliveries. It was also absent on the USMC jets.

Not true. Each aircraft IS allocated to a particular squadron, although they can change unit from time to time. In addition, a particular airframe may on occasion be flown by a pilot from a different unit if needed.

As an update, Tamiya are now tooling their own F-35B. Due in August with part number 60793.

The older Italeri reboxing 60791 should be avoided even more now!

On the subject of hard points, only the outer AAM stations on the box art, and AIM-9X/AMRAAM the only weapons mentioned in the merchandising...
