Re: Introduce yourselves
I have the Tamiya one with all the resin/PE to do sometime. Thinking of having it with the flaps/slats down either on the cat or catching a wire... not too sure yet but its a huge project.
Re: Introduce yourselves
Hi guys,
I'm Phill from Manchester so don't really have much military flying nearby... however I have a caravan near Valley so would call that my local base. My interest in aviation started from being taken to the Woodford airshows. It was here that I watched my friends uncle fly Red 2 ( Jim Provost ex Harrier Pilot) and subsequently met him and soon to be Red 1 Dicky Patronous. From then on I have been hooked. I started modelling just because I loved aircraft and wanted miniature versions in my room. For this reason I used to just make the model and that was it. If it was lucky it even got painted!! Now things have changed a little. I am a very patriotic guy and have an inbuilt dislike of American hardware (sorry if this offends anyone) so I normally build RAF aircraft with maybe the occasional Russian (really want the trumpeter 1/32 Frogfoot). After my buccaneer I'm now well infected by Aftermarket Syndrome and try to detail as much as I can so I normally build 1/48th, apart from the occasional SOTB 1/72 kit just to chill off. I've set myself a challenge with the 1/32 Hunter I'm going to build after the comp but its still a secret to all but a few
Hope that covers everything and I really enjoy looking at the brilliant builds on this section and thanks to all the work that Shaun and the other guys have put into the section.
Happy modelling and don't spend to much

Re: Introduce yourselves
OK, new to the forum but not to the hobby. Been building kits for nearly 50 years, first was an Airfix 1/72 Zero back in about '62.
Haven't built anything for a few years but have a box full of stuff waiting - must admit most of it is Hawker Hunters in various scales, about 30 of them. Ex-RAF and yes, I did work on the Hunters as well as Harriers, Wessex (in Hong Kong) and various other types. Member of the Black 6 restoration team, first time around, hence my avatar.
Aviation runs in the family; grandfather RAF 1918, two sons RAF WW2, Peter BoB Hurricane pilot KIA Malta 1941 and Bryan Spitfire pilot KIA 1941. Mother ex-WRAF.
I'm connected to Black 6 through time. It belonged to JG77 which was commanded by Munchenberg in 1942, in April 1941 Munchenberg (Bf109) was commanding a Staffel of JG26 in Sicily when he shot down and killed my uncle Peter. Brother Bryan was shot down by Oblt Meyer (prob FW190) of JG26 over the English Channel.
I love aviation and flying and have some hands on experience civil and military.

Re: Introduce yourselves

Im sure we will all benefit from your knowledge and modelling experience

(shame he nearly burnt his house down while modelling last year!) anyway i for one look forward to seeing the harrier (and my frs1, and my b-52!!)

Re: Introduce yourselves
all ill say is MY B-52 was being glued in his hands 2ft behind him was his chimney plinth (oak) burning away flames everywhere, smoke every where, which Daz totally missed, i saw the house the next day after the fire brigde removed his chimny and half the dinning room, it was a little dusty shall we say

Re: Introduce yourselves
I've been meaning to introduce myself on here for a while now but keep forgetting
I'm Steve, currently serving in the RAF at Wado. Some of you met me there on Monday. I used to build plenty of kits in my childhood and over the last couple of years have gradually been getting back into it. I'm trying to build within a theme, mostly any 'special' aircraft, particuarly Tigermeet. Due to lack of space i try and keep all the kits to 1:72 but a 1:32 Tonka managed to find its way through the door...
Since being in the forum i've been picking up new techniques and i've tried them out on a Mirage 2000 (pics in the WIP section) and i'm currently working on a P-47, which i've had in the stash for years.
My favourite kit i've built to date, and the biggest, was a 1:48 B-24 Liberator which is now displayed in 9AEFs crewroom at RAF Church Fenton.
Builds in the pipeline;
Large Scale GB - 1:32 Luftwaffe Tigermeet Tornado
FAA GB - 1:72 Fairey Swordfish
Display Team and Solo GB - MiG-29 from the pair which collided at RIAT in 93 and a Hawk
CAG GB - 1:72 F/A-18 'Tomcatters' Super Hornet
I've also got 3 Phantoms, a Hawk 100, a Hellcat, a 1:72 Bf-109 and a 1:32 Bf-109, a Tigermeet Puma, a FW-190, Victor and a Chllenger 2 in the stash to do.
Oh and the missus has just informed me that she's going to put all my kits in the bin!!!!
Send re-inforcements quick!!!!

Re: Introduce yourselves
Evening All,
Thought i would say hello as i have started looking through this section abit more recently due to the time of year and have started finishing/ making some models since the christmas period. usally i am out taking photos at bases in the better weather, i try to get to mildenhall on a weekend every month or so and if i can the local Marham. I have been making on and off for the past 10 or so years. Now i am abit older been trying to improve on a few things and will be having a look through the tips section although i brush finish currently. I mostly build 1:72 due to size and space but do have a couple of 1:48's in the stash will have to dig them out and and take a pic of the collection which has grown over the past couple of years as i kept buying but not building
. Collection contains mostly jets but have got a few helicopter, my most recently finished model is a RAF Tucano.
Current builds.
1:72 Harrier T.10 just needs decals as they arrived the other day
1:72 Hawk RAAF now in painting.
1:72 S-3B Viking USN awaiting painting
1:72 Hunter RAF awaiting painting
1:72 Vulcan RAF needs painting
1:48 Jaguar RAF needs completing and painting.
i am now starting two more 1:72 F-16B which will be in RNAF NTM 2007 and a 1:72 Mirage F.1M Spanish Tiger meet 2006.
