Tristar colour matching

Post by StuBie » Sat May 23, 2020 9:54 pm

Hi All,

I've started to pick up work on a few builds again and am trying to find the best colour to match the RAF Tristars before they left service. From what I can see via a google search BS633 seems to be a close match. Can anybody recommend a supplier of this or is it going to be easier to mix the tone myself?

Any help appreciated :-)

kind regards,

Stu

Hi StuBie

Still not got an answer since 2012 :S :S

Its not BS633 , that is RAF Blue Grey as used on early Sea Kings etc I wasnt sure either of the colour and chickened out and did mine in white
viewtopic.php?f=294&t=188988 , I would use Medium Sea Grey as used on the VC-10s which I remember reading somewhere had a black undercoat which made it look darker than normal , also the Tristars were gloss which again gives them a different hue. Xtracolor X003 from Hannants is a very good match , used it on the VC-10 in the same post The wings and tailplanes were finished in standard airliner colours

Hope this helps a little

Cheers

Paul
