Re: Hawk T1 XX337 1/48 now a dirty girl

Post by Cessna954 » Mon Nov 08, 2010 10:21 pm

Hi Mark,

just stumbled across your Hawk build thread and recognised the aircraft as one that we have at my local, Yeovilton, on a regular basis. However, upon looking in my photo database I found that in addition to numerous pics of it in black and Royal Navy markings I have this one taken at RAFA Woodford in 1993. The grey scheme Hawk was one of my favourites.

Great build.

Mark, the buff panels along the leading edge of the wings are strips of anti erosion tape, which resembles thick sellotape.
It is clear when applied but quickly weathers to the buff colour you can see in the photos.
One wing on your model obviously has newly applied tape!

Well I have had this pic for a couple of days but was a bit  :'( about putting it on. I thought I could say I did it in the dark or even got a chimp to throw paint at it   but you know what, I`m not realy bothered now. If posting my builds encourages other people to put theirs on and shows there is no `flaming` (so no flaming  ) here then I`m happy with that :D

Thank you (again) to AviationAndy for the paint. I am having real trouble with it though :S Too thin, then too thick :S I have used Humbrol arylics here but have also had trouble recently with the Humbrol enamels.

Any way :D the pic -

I think I will have another go at the chipping to the ` experimental radar reflective paint` :D on the leading edge. Then some heavy weathering to the rest of the aircraft.
